Playing USSSA this weekend, with 2 outs and our home team down 3 and the game timer about to go off within minutes, the base ump wouldn't let our baserunner at first step off for the 3rd out to start a new inning. Said it violated the travesty of the game rule.

Was he correct? This was 12U.

We stepped off base and other teams have for us to just end the game.

Niether we have or other Team stepped of base because of time limit.

Not sure actual rule but I am on the umpires side.

I agree with it being a violation of the spirit of the game...you have an out left. 2 out rally time! A violation of the rule though; probably not. Just have her take off running and go until tagged...then you get your new inning or a run closer :ROFLMAO:

On the other side of the argument are an infinite number of delay tactics to ensure that they don’t start another inning. There was reference a year or two ago to a coach that would change out his catcher mid inning to stall things. THAT would more qualify as a travesty in my book! But how major/minor do you let a clock management technique get called. And how early/late in the game. I’ve seen coaches start to draw things out 20 minutes into a game, and pitchers quick pitching from the get go to get the game to their pace.

I doubt that I would make the call to have my runner walk off, but I don’t think I can fault the gamesmanship. I’ve seen too many other variations on both sides.

DD played in a game like that in 12u years ago. Semi finals, DDs team up 5-3, home team has runner on 2nd, two outs, about a minute left. End the inning game, so it wasn't drop dead I guess a weak hitter was up because the coach has the runner step off 2nd for final out. DD's team got a run top of next inning. Other team scored three bottom of inning, so all tied 6-6. Went to international tiebreaker, and the team's scored a run each next three innings. Top 9 we got a run, bottom nine, two outs, other team has runner on 2nd, no runs in. Hitter dropped one in front of CF who gunned out runner at home coming from 2nd for the win. Greatest game I've ever seen any of DDs team play.

I should have mentioned in this last half inning the winning team's manager very slowly used 2 of his 3 mound conferences to stall for time (don't have to pull pitcher until 3rd visit).
