like the idea of splitting it up, can a bucket with a lid be checked? probably not a big deal for each familty to pay for one extra checked piece of luggage.

but really problematic for bownets, given the length. you might want to look into shipstix or something like that for those. they ship a lot of golf and hockey gear, and you arrange for the return at same time (normally drop off to a UPS or FDX store). Did this with DDs FH goalie bag once (approx 24 x 24 x 42), couple of hundred return included.

Never flown for a tournament, but what about ordering a Skilz net ($85) and 2 buckets of balls ($60 ea) from Dicks online and doing store pickup at the Dicks store in Myrtle Beach? Would the couple hundred bucks on cheap equipment you are only gonna use for a week be cheaper than shipping?

You could donate it to someone at the end of the week, maybe someone would give you 50 bucks for it on the last day to take it off your hands.

Our team splits the equipment up with the girls. Other teams in the area do the same. For bucket of balls, just tape the lid to bucket with duck tape. Bownets are not an issue either (I assume they are in the bag). Both buckets and bownets will show up in the oversized luggage areas of the luggage claim.

I can't answer or offer much help, but ..

Maybe I'm the only one wondering.... but why is a 12u team playing in a tournament that far away? We've gone one or two states away for a tournament but usually drove or multiple parents drove. But, that far at 12u? What's the point or real value as compared to a tournament closer to Ohio? I know it's called "Nationals" but what's the end goal of being in that specific tournament? Some tournaments my DD's have been in were called "National Championships" or "World Series".... but they really were not really NATIONAL or that much different than any other tournament.

If no one was driving, we always just took it on the plane or shipped it to the hotel. Never had any issues.

more of a destination location playing against solid teams that we wouldn’t otherwise see in Ohio and surrounding areas.

Ahhh...Fair enough. Sort of a vacation/tournament combo. Got it. Man, I wouldn't want to try and get all that gear that far. Yowsa! 😵
