Last night I had the opportunity to take in the first game on a new high school field. Two of the top teams in the state paired against one another. Big crowd and perfect weather.

To get right to the point I was amazed at one of the coach’s behavior. Hands all over the players, chest bumping players, and more behavior you wouldn’t expect to see from a coach.

I say all of that to offer a suggestion to any of the coaches out there - don’t touch the players.

With my new little 10U team, I'm all about building up confidence and piling on the praise! But I have to remind myself hands off, I always have a glove on my hand, and I'm notorious for smacking a girl on the shoulder with my glove after a really nice play. With these little girls, a chunk of Horween could dislocate a shoulder! ;)

When it was HS days, it was hands off 100% of the time, including with my DD, the occasional fist bump after something special!

Male coach or female coach?
Shouldn't make a difference, but does.
While to some that may still hold true.

That line
(so to speak) has greatly faded and really is irrelevant
to the mixture of diversity.

See this a lot from a local 10U travel team. Coaches totally inappropriate, chest bumps, and the like. As a coach myself, all I do is a fist bump with the girls. Big hits, nice plays, and the like, everything gets a fist bump.

I have physically moved a kid from standing on top of the plate (like literally on top of the plate while also facing the pitcher at the same time) when he was hitting after telling him 3 times and showing him 2 times...does that count and if so what sort of penance do I need?

Was there a way to do that with verbal instruction?
Or a visual by you standing in correct spot?

Just sayin' good intension to get it right, not good repercussion if someone doesnt see that as necessary.

Reminder a kid can go home and say
'the coach picked me up to today.'
