Is there any place in the game for beaning a batter?

I do not condone intentionally hitting a batter. Never did, even in my baseball days. Just something I have never understood and never will.

That said, I fully believe that the pitcher has a right to the inside portion of the plate. If a hitter is leaning in, trying to take away that part of the strike zone, and they get hit by an inside fastball, so be it...

No..it is dumb in baseball and it is dumb in softball. While the HBP wasn't intentional, anybody who thinks intentionally throwing at somebody is harmless should look up Tony Conigliaro..

In select ball, is it acceptable to intentionally hit a batter their next bat after they hit a home run? Is it just "part of the game" or is it bush league? Have you ever seen it happen? Was it Snohomish Shocking or just commonplace?

In my opinion, Suck it up buttercup, They hit a homer off of you! Don't be a whiny baby because they did their job and hit it out. I personally can't stand that petty crap. The pitcher doesn't own the plate any more than the batter does.

That's a bit different - if the pitcher can put the pitch in the river on the inside, that's great pitching.

How can you say "there's never a reason...?"

So if the opposing pitcher has beaned a half dozen of your hitters, you're not going to bean that pitcher when they come up to bat? I call BS. You're going to have your pitcher put one in their ribs

I once had a pitcher hit (not "bean," since none of them were hit in the head) about that many during a pretty bad inning when we were up a ton of runs. After the game one of the girls on the other team sucker punched her in the handshake line.

Sounds like you would've fit in perfectly as the coach of that team. Would you have joined her in the back of the police car since you condone retaliation?

Intentionally hitting a batter these days is stupid.

Batters can be taught how to be hit by a pitch (rotate, tuck and duck). Put that with the body armor batters now wear, and hitting a batter isn't particularly painful or dangerous.
