Hello,

I hope I can get some ideas from the group here. My DD had a crash on her MTB and landed on her right side at the end of the summer season. Nothing was broken and she did her PT.

During fall ball, her fastball has become a screwball/bullet now. We’re going to head back to fundamentals after the last games this weekend. Any ideas on what drills I can use with her? It’s been a struggle correcting her because she pitched well for so long and she’s very frustrated with her mechanics.

We also have a lot time booked with her pitching coach too.

Thanks!

Not a doctor, though i did stay at a Holiday Inn once.

Best guess would be some sort of different pressure being put on the ball. She mention not being able to grip the way she used to?

Cape Cod Mass.
There are two causes of bulletspin, they can also sometimes operate together. Her hand/palm could be open at release, facing toward 3rd base or the dugout, with the ball rolling off the finger tips. Or the palm could be facing forward and the ball could be coming off the side of the index finger, between it and the thumb, rather than the finger tips. To fix the first problem square the palm up at release. If it's the second problem focus on releasing the ball off the fingers. To figure out what the cause is you need to take a ball and put a big black mark or a piece of tape right where the two seams come close together. Have her take her 4 seam grip with the mark between the index finger and the thumb. If the palm is open at release the mark should be visible on the back side of ball. If the ball is rolling off the side of the index finger, the mark will be a blur as it rotates around the ball.

Yes she did, a lot stiffer at the wrist since she had to brake the fall with that hand. Talking to her PT on this.

I am not sure I understand this desire for a 12-6 fastball rotation when everyone I know says fastballs get crushed at higher levels. It sounds like a freak accident has given her fastball movement.

Has she had a couple of weeks off? My DD was late to pitching (2nd yr 12u) and she was so focused on improving mechanics, she never took time off. I forced her to take 2 weeks off in August. When she started pitching again, she said "My arm feels weird". When I asked for details, she said it wasn't all tight and painful.

Take some time, let her heal both her injury and her tired arm. Then start back. Workouts will be more productive and her "feel" will be more true

We plan to do that after Halloween Havoc this weekend. She has a softball camp when school is off near thanksgiving, so taking the weeks off between the last game and then sounds like a good idea.

Only 2 causes?
