I guess I'm missing something. Is the coach successful or not?
If so how do argue against success? If not then it is the responsibility of the AD to make a change.

If the coach is not playing the best lineup the proof will be in the won-loss record.

That's the information that gets conveniently left out of virtually every "School ball is terrible" post I see anywhere on the internet (along with all the missing footage of the kids playing lights-out better than whoever is playing ahead of them).

Define success . . because in youth sports, including HS, winning % and titles should not be in the top 3, maybe not top 5
At the school I coach at, if you don't win, you will be fired. You can look at the overturn of coaches. When I was hired, I applied to teach my academic subject and to coach baseball although I had a lot of experience coaching both baseball and basketball. I was told when I was hired that I was now the head coach in both sports AND that if I didn't turn the programs around in a year I would be released. I am not much into participation trophies. I am tough. We win. However, I would suggest that in winning games, we win kids. Our school has a rich history of our players playing in college. One or two of them (more) did pretty well in college and their parents forgave me for how tough I was. (am)

This is tough on a coach to know they will be fired if.
Rich history sounds more like the prestige brings families in.
The student athletes already know what their getting into.
As do the parents and their money.

Why do you have to be "tough" to win as a coach? Do you think "tough" coaches have an advantage over nice coaches?
Nice coaches are welcome at schools who dont have a rich history and rely on them to nurture the program to grow it. Maybe just to keep it going.

Tough coaches trying to prove they can motivate lessor talent by being tough has a tendency to blow apart the season.

My dd is trying to buy a house in our school district. She teaches at another legendary sports school. She just realized that homes in our two communities are way over priced and yet houses don't stay on the market for long. People in our community do care about sports.

I'll bug out now.

Youth sports I agree for 12u and under but for HS varsity why is winning and titles not a measure of success. Providing of course the coach isn't an abusive jerk. What is wrong with being competitive at the varsity level?
