Not a new topic by any means... but lets attack the topic anyway LOL

22 on the travel ball roster.
WHY?

Why not just have 2 teams?!

:) Are there any reasonable reasons for this ?
Or can any reason be debunked ;)

22? Wow.... The highest I ever got was 20. But that was for a 23u roster made up mostly of college players that seemed to have a lot of plans throughout the summer. Several only played in two or three tournaments. The most we ever had at a single event was 13, even with 20 on the roster. I will be interested to see what others have to say.

We're hearing rumblings that college rosters will be around 32-35 because of the extra year of eligibility granted to all from last spring. Not a great situation for a 21 or 22 graduate to come into. I wish they had thought that through better.

But no way would I let my kid join a team with a roster that big unless the team mostly played locally and I wasn't paying for hotels, planes, gas, meals and everything at far-flung tournaments. Some may feel differently, but we've had enough experience with being benched with 15-18 players present to be interested in a team with 20+ on the roster.

22 is too many for any age below college....but I've seen it for 16U and 18U. My DD's 16U team currently has 17, and is looking to add a P and Mid IF. I'm not a fan of that big a roster, but my DD likes the team.

You asked why 22 on the roster? It is such a complex answer. In short, no team would need 22 if they had 11 girls that will win a championship. The 22 is to have intense competition at every position drive development to turn some of the 22 into a team of 11 that can win a championship. Completely TEAM focused, not player.

The reason you go to a team of 22 is to have the chance to fight it out to be one of the 11 and/or reap the recruiting benefits of being on the team.

Good gracious.

We have 15 on our Feeder/Middle School team and it's making parents grumble. We're all used to our kids being on teams with rosters of 10 or 11.
