The importance of the rear side is it allows one to swing "down to" against both hips extending vs shifting/lunging across the pelvis to the front leg.

If you're not swinging against the hips you're swing with rotating hips to power the swing.

😎 I have swings of Pujols doing the same thing. So he isn’t hitting a off speed and the rear leg is in complete control.
I see all midsection in Tatis swings.. torqueing the hips(you can see the twist in the midsection) as he gets to FYB, and then explosion happens from the midsection leveraging ground force from a stable base ...connecting to the upper body

Test gif,

Question, is he using both legs at the same time? Meaning is his backside actually in control or is his front leg/foot helping?

I think its pretty clear in this gif that both legs are being supporters of the swing, just the rear

So his setup is his style.. His movement pattern (how he moves) uses the rear leg to drive the swing within the sequence. Front side dependencies are to catch the swing..

The actions applied at setup (style) dictate how the body will sequence and move.
