It's been too long since I've read a rule book. I saw some cats arguing this on a Facebook Group.

The kid isn't running in the running lane (there isn't one). He makes zero attempt to avoid contact.
One the other hand the fielder is blocking the base without the ball.

I can't remember if the running lane is a real thing or a guideline. If it's real does it take precedence over the obstruction?

Fielder has no idea what to do or is blocking the runner. Runner is safe.

Speaking softball, I probably have obstruction since f3 didn’t have possession of the ball, and it doesn’t look like malicious contact (just terrible running). Too bad there wasn’t a safety bag.

All I see is really bad bat drag and poor posture and not enough TTB and scap preload, poor balance and weight transfer...oh and really bad finish through the zone....oh wait...sorry...wrong forum area/topic.

The running lane is only used when there is a throw coming from behind the runner and the runner interferes with the defense's ability to make the play. On those plays the batter runner needs to be in the running lane to protect herself from the interference call.

Rethinking this, I was wrong...assuming there was a safety bag, and the BR didn't use it..."interference includes...batter-runner touching the white portion of the double-base at first base and colliding with the fielder trying to catch a thrown ball..."

They should be sending this to whoever manages that field too, there is a reason the safety base is required for most youth baseball and softball leagues...

Also, I would agree with a coaching issue on both sides. The collision is both of their faults. The runner isn't anywhere near the baseline and the fielder is standing over the top of the bag.
