Here's what should happen:
1) Coil hips inward as you stride to toe touch
2) Then coil outward, which makes the back elbow drop, and the swing starts

Here's what she does:
1) Coil hips inward as she goes backward until her head is over her back foot (see pic).
2) Coil hips OUTWARD as she strides forward to toe touch.
3) She drops her back elbow while she is on one leg, during the stride.

Other Dads at home, the #1 thing to teach your kid is to coil your hips INWARD AS you stride forward to toe touch. And keep them coiled in as long as possible. Don't spend another penny on lessons, cages, or bats until you learn this. You can learn this in front of a mirror at home in a few days. It's easy.

Thanks. Do you have a link to someone doing isolations or mirror work stressing these components of the swing?

As for the collapsing only during live, I think it might come from letting the ball travel too much (probably think too much trying to decide if the pitch is worthy of a swing) and it is an attempt to buy time or create a space deeper in the hitting zone. So she may just need to become a yes yes yes hitter.

It is not the back side, it is the front side that is not right. A quick help is to try to tell her to straighten her front knee when she swings and as she follows through she should be able to lift her front toes off the ground. If she can't lift her front toes then her weight (instead on moving up and against her front side) has moved over her front side.

This may be something also. We have worked on this, and a good reminder of this mindset is never wasted time.

classic improper leveling against live pitching -- drop hands/squat. needs to learn 12/6 swing path and tilt to deliver the barrel properly. some here will say that comes naturally, don't force it. I don't think it's a natural movement but some hitters CAN evolve to it. But when a hitter does what your DD does it needs a more active fix.

"Ride the back leg" is just a phrase. The phrase itself is not as important as the interpretation of that phrase. Think about "swinging down". I know there are several people here that like that phrase, but it can be misconstrued just as easily as "ride the back leg" can be. Interpretation...
