Bichette's 2 strike approach is well documented (on the right).....

....but I've been noticing many of the Jays adapting this approach this year as well.. All resulting in 2 strike HR's below

I've seen Vladdy do this quite often as well but can't find any video. Anybody else noticing this trend on their favorite teams.

Nice catch. Also, did you notice that Bichette is using a technique called "bump?" Watch him bump the bat against his shoulder two times. The first person I ever heard talk about "bump" is Howard Carrier. It can be used for a couple of different strategies. I had a hitter who could not resist flying out too soon, dropping her bat in to drag ... and so, on her coil, she bumped as a reminder to stay collected or "forward by coil." It can also be used as a way to prevent arm bar.

Woodstock, man
I like the way they turn their heel toward the pitcher, in order to help their coil inward.

I don't usually like having a different swing/stride for 2 strikes. Mostly because they are trying to dink a ball through the infield (which hardly ever works based on the stats). But these guys are still trying to hit it deep.

Interesting. I have never heard of that before.

Agreed.. my understanding is they are taking this approach because it lets them sit on the off speed pitch, while staying short for the heat. Basically it dumbs down the timing process and getting to hitting position. They have every intention of doing damage, Teoscar has 11 HR's so far this season, which is tied for 2nd in the majors. Some of these HR's have come with 2 strikes using this approach.

I'm not that detailed oriented ..LOL. Interesting though, I've seen Vladdy do this as well. He doesn't really actually touch his shoulder, but the motion is there

I believe it’s a delaying tactic for the hands. If they load first they ‘go’ first, hence the flying open. JD Martinez does this. I have used this, it’s good.

In Gary wards video, he said players use it to feel the barrel. I believe at one time Ripken used a version of this, along with the fiddle playing move.
