PGF has the brand name and a single quality product but they just experienced what happens when you only have one main revenue stream (tournament entry fees) and it gets disrupted. I don't know Perfect Game but seems like they make money off of measurable camps, recruiting match-making, etc. I imagine this moves PGF fully into BOTH On-Deck Softball and Sports Recruits/NCSA territory....
Like that perspective on it.
Single product narrow range in softball community.
That was started to be qualifying events to participate in nationals.
Turned into a big invite event for a large portion.
Invite handouts at high price at that.

My DD did a PG baseball event back in 12u. I admit, they offer something way above the average event. They have a person gunning every pitch and keeping a book on the game, at bats, etc. That's then posted on their website. A non biased keeping of all stats. The only thing I didn't like was the stay to play part of it. They put us in an absolute sh*thole with a crackhouse behind it. And no, I'm not joking. The hotel bill actually showed the per night PG surcharge. I have no interest in ever supporting an STP again.

Signed up to work a Perfect Game tournament baseball tournament a few years ago. It was about two hours away, but the pay was going to be good and the number of games was worthwhile (was even going to stay the night on my own dime).

Left the house at 5am and got over there early. Asked the gate folks where the umpire area was and they shrugged. “The trailer with the gift shop is up that way. Maybe ask there.”

Got up there and found out they did not have any area for umpires. Work out of your car weekend. Then I waited 45 minutes for the TD/UIC (same person) who informed me he didn’t schedule me (after sending me a 16-game schedule the week before). He refused to pay me any compensation.

Since then I’ve refused several offers to work Perfect Game events. They had a cool trailer and gift shop. That’s all I can say that’s nice.

Thank you for sharing. Noone knows what the end product will look like, but there are certain folks that are already out there providing a service to masses that is beneficial to college coaches and families that is working it. But! Can it be improved without raising costs and integrated into the existing system that seem to be working for the most part. Lets be real, every kid that wants to play ball in college will play as long as they can actually play and it's a real fit. It all sorts itself out. Are there kids that are missed? Heck yeah! Are there kids that don't live up to the hype? OmG yes!!! Why do you think the transfer portal exists?

Generally things are only as good as the people who run it.

Not familiar with Perfect Game....

However i am familiar with
playing a perfect game...
it takes people dedicated to working together, and communication with a common purpose and goal !

pgf has competition here in
so cal from multiple other s.b. venues.
What could this bring to the table that isnt already an opportunity here?
Free live streaming would be nice!
Realistic for it to be free?Hmmm ?

Lets hope whatever this merger is brings to softball something good!

That is a great point that I failed to hone in on @RADcatcher .

It very likely was a localized experience. Still, if you are going to license your brand (and haul in your gift shop), I would hope you would be making sure the product is up to the quality you expect.

Darn unfortunetly seems name and brand doesnt always mean they make sure the product is up to quality ;(

Whomever the folks are in the merger already being involved in sports have an established reputation of some sort.

Anyone know of the people who run Perfect Game?

That is what i am interested to see what whomever they are bring to the table.

Love to sub-message myself :) This is a much bigger deal than the quiet here would indicate. National rankings of PLAYERS will happen under this and will be a gamechanger. Will be interesting to see how *deep* they can go with it, beyond top 100, regional, etc?

My way to evaluate mergers and acquisitions has always been do the other players in the market say 'oh shirt' when it happens. This is an oh-shirt merger/partnership impacting associations, tournaments, recruiting sites, colleges, measurable companies, eventually hardware/sensor firms, etc. etc. IMO.

Bill Conroy said on another site:
Dan Hay has a vision that includes every team and every girl having the opportunity to be evaluated on the same platform so no one has to be considered the red headed step child.

That's a powerful vision.
