That's going to be a tough one for sure. Colleges are waffling on what they're going to do. Ivy League cancelled all fall sports. As per public schools, doesn't matter what government or parents have to say. It'Us all going to be based on what the teachers unions decides. They are likely the strongest union in America. They are the ones with their hands on the wheel.
Income will force their decision.
Already on line and in school are both supposedly being implemented.

As I posted earlier, we are still playing. We are trying to be smart about and limit exposure, however, we aren't living in the "NBA bubble". When not doing softball, players are out with friends, going to restaurants, basically being teenagers. Other than the fact that I can't buy a ticket to a White Sox game this summer, and that I wear a mask whenever I go into a store, life is relatively "normal". That might change in the next month as we get to the point school is supposed to start back up.

2) Masks should not be worn by the average American

Criticism of Fauci conveniently omits the reasoning for this statement:
Certified medical masks were in extremely short supply when the USA outbreak started in mid-February/March.
He was concerned that if the general consumer started hoarding masks (like they did toilet paper),
there would be even less supply for the front-line and medical workers.

People that are *still* fighting mask-wearing and it's effectiveness,
continually point to this statement as justification, erroneously...

Like you said: lots of mistakes were made in the early stages of this pandemic, and are *still* being made.
But editing the historical record is ill-advised.

Still playing in Georgia. Depends on the local city and county ordinances but there have been tournaments pretty much every weekend since June 6. Triple Crown Southeast Nationals is happening this upcoming week and there is a big showcase in South Carolina too. Tournaments going on in Alabama too.

Our travel team is then shutting down for the summer after TCS as the girls will be getting ready for high school ball (we play fall ball for high school for some reason that has never been explained to me).

We're not playing (meaning our team) in Georgia. One family (on our team) tested positive and we're calling it quits. We only had a few practices and one tourney left anyway. A little bummed, but it was the right decision for us. It was nice to play a few tourneys in June. Girls loved it, and we hope were safe -- still not sure due to recent events on our team.

REALLY??? In Florida of all places? My parents (70s) moved to Tampa/Clearwater area and they are just beyond disgusted at the idiocy of Gov De Santis and what's happening in that state. Its like bizarro world. Covid #s are exploding yet everything is opening up again or big events hosted. (NBA, MLS, Disney World)

It's long been determined that Florida will be the end of us. ;)

He was asked during that week if his recommendation was made based on the supply of masks. I'm almost certain it was on CNN. He denied that assertion, So either he blatantly lied or was incompetent.

As a HS teacher in So Cal I did a spit take when De Santis compared opening schools to Home Depot and Walmart being open as well. He obviously has no clue what a classroom is like with 35-40 students packed tight together in a classroom and some that have no windows at all and doors that are to be shut and locked (new policies in effect due to school shootings).

Our district as others are..are deciding this week what model (all in, hybrid or online) eqch district will give parents options. As a teacher Ill need to be there 5 days a week. How many students in my classes? Who knows..maybe 1/2 of normal? Masks no masks? Do I wear mask? Imagine trying to police the kids wearing their masks? UGH... I'm 51 and know older teachers that are struggling with the decision to go back. I definitely am not thrilled at what lies ahead.

Thanks for doing what you do, Quigs.

We have been playing friendlies outside of LA County. Our team has distancing and mask policies that we do pretty well with. Not all teams are following the same protocols. Most parents are doing a reasonable job with distancing and/or masks.

Personally, I wear a mask because there is no downside to taking the safer option. I'm basing my approach not by just what I read, but what makes sense to me, and what I have learned from my friends who work on the front lines in health care.
