At today's practice, AC keeps telling girls who have safely reached first on the throw to always turn to the right and go to the bag or they will be out. I have always had girls turn to the left, just because it's a habit I like, and return to the bag. I get that their one stop is when they stop, but as long as they go directly to the bag, does it matter which way they turn?

Doesn’t matter which way they turn as long as they don’t make an attempt to go to 2nd. It’s more important that they run hard Straight through the bag, hit the front side of the bag, and chop their steps and look to the right to the first base coach or to the likely spot of the overthrow.

Turning to the left is NOT automatically an attempt at second ... unless you get one of those umpires.

I don't have my rulebooks on this device so I can't give you any quotes or screen shots, but most rule sets have gotten very specific in defining what a runner can and cannot do when running through first base. If I get back on later, I'll try to post the verbiage from one of the rules sets.

I agree with

I agree with your AC. On a bunt, infield single, anything hit to infield turn right into foul territory.
Reason being if the player runs through 1st and turns left into fair territory it’s at umps discretion whether she made a move towards 2nd or not. Don’t leave anything up to the ump if you don’t have to.
Any balls that get through the infield the girls should be taking a big turn at 1st looking to get to 2nd or at least trying to force a throw to keep them at 1st.

I'll add another aspect and question...

Q: If its a dropped 3rd by catcher and ball kicks toward 1st base dugout...catcher picks it up in foul territory on 1st base side and fires to the first baseman....can the 1B be on or use the orange "safety base" in foul territory to receive the throw for the out?

(I know the answer;) now after thinking differently when first starting to coach softball....but want to hear from others. Because there have been a few umps and other coaches argue different aspects of this rule.)
