So we did a microphone test tonight and it's a no go. We could not get the bluetooth mic to work. I think part of the problem is that the AGL is generic, it's not a branded product so you can't download a compatible app. There is a pretty big sound lag anyways, so I am not sure the microphone would have helped much. I am going to have a parent try and stand by the camera and at least announce batters & good plays. We have one that lingers around the backstop anyways.

The zoom was also a no go. You can zoom on the tablet's camera, but it will not allow you to zoom in the AGL app. I am going to email AGL and ask them about this. Since the camera itself is capable, I would think they could get it to work within the app.

I signed our team up last week and streamed our games. I used an iPhone 8. I am curious to know more about the AGL camera and advantages to using it over an iPhone

I think they claim the AGL camera has 2 primary advantages

- it's water/weather proof
- it has a wide view lense like a GoPro
So I keep hearing that it is a wide view. Can anyone confirm if the actual device (which is just a rugged Android Tablet) has any kind of special lens. We picked up the device that AGL is using from the manufacturer. Using the stock lens, this is the shot we got on this youth baseball / small high school softball field. It does capture a lot more than an average smartphone. But I do wish it was a bit wider.

We definitely got the whole field. Disregard the glare and smudge on the lense.

I love the idea and its potential but Covid clearly pushed this into the mainstream before it was ready. This is really an early beta version that is by necessity being used as a finished product.

I hope they continue to push updates to improve the app especially to the scoring functions and the whole account/role setup. In my limited interaction with the company I will say they seemed genuine in their desire to make the product as good as possible.
There have been three updates within the past week, and two the week before that I think. Sat on a webinar with Biele last week and even he was having functionality issues, but did mention they have been working hard with their engineers and were pushing out fixes and updates just as fast as they could.

That being said, the video quality and video clip capability is amazing. We have only used it for three weeks now but I can't imagine not using it now. Also, the first weekend I was INCREDIBLY frustrated with the scoring portion. Come to find out that is because they went from around 80 games being streamed and scored the weekend before to 1800. The second weekend, I only had one game that was really glitchy (in scoring only). Last weekend, there were only a couple of 10 minute periods where the app froze up or gave me an error message. The sound is def a few seconds behind the video which really stinks. So sitting behind the backstop narrating the game is going to be out of sync too.

It is an amazing app and has the potential to be something really special. It may change the way recruiting happens, especially for smaller schools with smaller budgets. This allows girls from all over the country to get in front of coaches who they wouldn't have before. And no, I am not a part of the organization that created this ;) Give it a few weeks and keep using the scoring portion too. I have had another parent continue to keep GC too so we KNOW we have correct stats. And we have been using an old iPhone to stream.

Thanks for the reply, and I already hate it. ;-(

Something to note: When registering for the first time, there is a mandatory drop-down box that instructs to "select your team".

Initally, this threw me off, because the drop-down box populated with a list, presumably from my browser's auto-fill feature, that made no sense and were not softball team names. Once I figured out that I needed to start typing our team name in that box, the proper choices started appearing in the list, dynamically as I typed.

IDK, YMMV, but I thought the video quality was only OK. If you're watching the pitcher or the catcher, it was good, but if you're trying to see the outfielders, they were like specks in the distance. I've seen clips from Biele's team and they looked like you were watching MLB. Maybe there's a big learning curve. But the sound lagging behind the picture was also sort of disconcerting.

I just went back and checked a few of the games that I've done. The sound is spot on for each of them. I wonder what's causing that? As for the outfielders appearing to be specs in the distance, I would say they appear that way because they are!

This is what I was told, too. They simply didn't have their servers properly scaled. Also, my understanding is that Champions decided to use AT&T for data streaming, and their connections were spotty at best depending on which park you were in. We were with the 16U folks at Twin Creeks, and my personal phone (AT&T) had only one bar most of the weekend.

I'm told that dedicated hot spot devices will make the streaming go more smoothly.
