Cool, thanks for asking.

Do you remember "HYP" from BBF years ago? He came up with (or at least I first heard it from him) that the swing is "Linear to rotational" to describe it. Most folks immediately thought he was talking about "Nike Swoosh", and that he had it all bassackwards. Ha!

But in reality, he was spot on in that he was describing the movement of the rear hip...in that it moves "linearly" until it turns "rotationally" to launch the swing. Now yes, what he said was "rotational" instead of "extension" which we talked about privately, but the three word cue was solid in getting hitters to think about working the rear hip correctly, and how to use it....and why you see his name "Duncan", as one of the names in "my camp".

Btw, since you did ask me about Cabrera, and I answered you with Bonds...I'm in the process of trying to take the Cabrera clip you used, and trying to break out the "hip extension" in that one if that might help.

EDIT: Ah hell, I get it now, the wording was also all messed up, my bad...does this help at all?

"The rear hip shouldn't be started into extension, until the hitter is doing to so...in order to actually start to launch/swing the bat..."

Or even easier, don't extend the rear hip until you're ready to launch the bat at the ball....IOWs, "hit the ball with your rear hip". 😄

That seems to be an atypical swing from Cabrera. It is quite different from his "normal" (found on youtube) swing.

So you like TM's rear hip thing(for the most part)? I think its pretty darn good.

Agreed, but it was the clip that I was asked about so I used it. Besides, "hip extension" is in 99% of all HL swings, "normal" or not.

If you're speaking of how he described it as far as the BoT and ToB...yes. But most of his other stuff like where he's rubbing his hand around a baseball or his fist is quite suspect.

Disclaimer: I also don't follow him anywhere, so all I know about what he may or may not be saying any longer, is only from what others post occasionally on a couple of the hitting forums I still post at.

Are u talking about softball or baseball pitching?

Well both, they both bow, flex, bow. Fastpitch pitchers create a forward lean and then shoot the middle out there like a volleyball spike. Then they crack the whip against the front leg.

Definitely hip extension happening.

Yeah, This isn’t a great swing by any hitter. Although, Cabrera often doesn’t turn the hips completely. I do have 2 favorite Cabrera swings. Both swings are much better then the one posted.

I dont really follow him besides when rdbass posts in the TTB thread. I think its roughly the same idea as "hit it with your rear hip"

This takes you/us into coaching land though. Where often down is up and up is down.(Obliques cant move the hips still)

I think in a fit athlete the hips will rarely be the limiting factor. They are so fast and explosive. Most often the bat is behind. Hence all the bat path/upper body cues.

The TM cue is a good thing for players who leave the rear leg behind(greatly inhibits hip extension). If you're doing a split it's impossible to jump.

Here's my 2 favorite Cabrera swings, for different reasons.

I like the upperbody and lowerbody in the first clip and the lowerbody in the second clip.

Shawn. I think if you speed your bat up going forward your early extension just becomes extension. Down To, Obliques, whatever it takes.

Speed up the slowest part. Your bat is behind in your current swings.

I've been down that road with trying to hold angles or create stuff that should be byproducts in golf. Watch the tiger vid tds linked there.
