If you TTB naturally, then trying to TTB will have a negative effect. You will release the barrel to soon. If you look at the young me, I TTB without any thoughts.

If you loop, dump the barrel and uncock the hands, then TTB and creating a deep rotational point for the hands will be problematic.

If you have to much of a backswing then taking the HTTB (hands to the ball) has a very positive effect.

Aaron Judge has a very tight sequence. Telling him to TTB will have no effect on his swing. He might be a hand pusher and TTB actually helps his swing.

If you push the swing to much, then TTB might be just what you need. You need a little backswing.

I’m going to try taking my hands forward tomorrow and see what happens. I did it a little last time I swung and I liked the swings.

Just general comments, not specifically for you Shawn. Learn good sequence, good posture, how to use the core to pull while being reinforced by both legs.. = push swing eliminated, = good barrel path.

Of course the hands are important, but if missing the components above you will have to rely on them more to achieve good barrel path and end up forcing them to do some unnatural crap(TTB). That’s why I refer to TTB has a bandaid fix, bypassing the other important components in an “attempt” to match(barrel path) what we see from the best in the game.

Others will say you can still TTB with the other important components in place... if the other components are in place you never have to think about TTB ... it becomes obsolete, then we can practice the truth, “down to”.

Something you can try with your heavy bag (yeah, yeah I know I was the one who told you to go hit a ball... 😂 ). Your younger you in particular could benefit from this :) DD is having issues with this atm (but I have sworn off instructing her for the moment ;) ...going to do some tee work on the field with goals instead of telling her anything)

Pattar,

That’s an interesting drill. Looks like it’s productive.
Well it would only be productive if somebody used it and it helped so I cannot verify personally..but Matt seems to be sold on it :)
