To be fair, there are expenses that the TDs lay out in order to host these tournaments but yeah, there is some serious bank being made as well. It really is not unfair to say that most of the big tournaments are more about the money than anything else. Some of the bigger organizations have asked for a Covid-19 relief package that totals $8.5 billion - now that covers soccer, football, etc as well but it should give you an idea of just how big the industry actually is.

Stars over Alabama, team STP buy out $600. Same hotel, $50 less per night. My math, 4 nights pay $50 each and buy out. Saves $150 a family not considering taxes.they were also putting us 50 minutes away and I believe we are traveling the furthest. Team is now booked 10 minutes away, $45/night less the no choice STP option.
7 of 8 tournaments are STP so we always inquire about the buyout.

very, very simple. if teams do not attend tourneys that are stay to play, the tourney will either change the policy or fade away.
This is all very dandy to say, but very hard to follow through. With the biggest National tourneys requiring STP, what are you going to do? All TCS "Nationals/Regionals" tourneys are STP including Fireworks/Sparkler, Louisville Slugger IDT is also STP, PGF Nationals, etc. You can definitely say no to a local STP tourney, but the Nationals are not going away and they are not gonna change their policy anytime soon. Before we pulled out of IDT the only hotel under $200 a night was 45 minutes away from the fields. This hotel is normally $89/nt. STP has it's merits. Not when you have to pay an extra $50 a night for a 7 day stay. If you are a gold team playing in multiple Nationals, it really adds up and hurts the pocket book. I have seen over the past couple of years, graduated Seniors that are signed decide not to play in the last few tourney of the summer so they can save money to spend on college instead.

If you live in the town where the tournament is hosted, you don't have to stay in their hotel do you?

Thanks.

So I just happen to own homes in almost every town that has tournaments. :)
Well the team as a whole has to buyout typically, it cannot be one person so the odds of 11 families from GA owning homes in TX are probably pretty low.. 😂

You'd be surprised. We all happen to live on the same street in all these towns too. It's pretty crazy.
They base it on where the team is from, not where you have extra homes. Not a typical situation.

When we went to Colorado I stayed with a college buddy's family and save $$$ that way. The rest of the team's room blocks satisfied the minimum days to stay to qualify.
