I thought the decision was due to be released today but could only find this article that appears to be specific to basketball.

I felt all along as soon as the SEC cancelled all camps through July 31 that the dead period would also be extended until then. I just didn't see a way the SEC would be willing to put themselves at a competitive disadvantage in recruiting

Curious question about this. The article states that it's just for on campus activities. A camp my DD is interest in, is setup for late June, but it's not ON campus. It's setup for an off campus athletic facility. Do you all think that is a way around the rules, or will end up being cancelled anyways?

My understanding is this would not be allowed during a dead period just as coaches are not allowed to attend showcases during a dead period but I am far from an NCAA rules expert.

The decision will be made tomorrow 5/13.

The group also committed to make a final decision on an extension of the recruiting dead period through June 30 at the group’s May 13 meeting.

A dead period would mean that a college coach is not allowed to evaluate or talk to a PSA in person, on or off campus. This would mean no coaches at camps, tournaments, or showcases until the dead period ends.

As FanFav said above, the NCAA will vote today on whether or not to extend the current dead period past May 31. Most believe it will be extended through June at a minimum, with the possibility of July being added later. Some of the smaller showcases/exposures that could move their event have already done so based on the information they are getting from college coaches while some have been canceled. The vote today will apply to D1 and D2, some expect D3 to follow but others expect them not to. The NJCAA is going to let their moratorium on recruiting expire May 15 and JUCOs will be allowed to recruit starting May 16 - most are still not allowed to host recruits or events on their campus through the summer. NAIA will continue to do their own thing as well - more than likely be out recruiting if there is a need.

There are many pieces out there that are going to affect recruiting besides the extended dead period:
1. Some programs have frozen their budgets, including their recruiting budgets waiting to see how things shake out.
2. College campuses are mostly closed for the summer and have canceled all on campus events through the summer.
3. The extra year of eligibility question still looms large and affects each program differently - some trickle down will happen.

Are coaches able to watch games that are live-streamed during the dead period?

My understanding, based on conversations with a couple of D1 / D2 coaches, they can watch livestream games, review video, call, text, email, zoom, etc. The only thing the dead period does is cut out in person evaluation of recruits, whether on or off campus.

By the way, none of the coaches that I talked to are very fond of the livestream games.
