So the NCAA is thinking about this part a little more thoroughly....

A map of all the different situations in states and areas showing what the educational systems are actually going to do may help see a bigger picture on this topic.

That said,
It will be interesting.

Officials with Public schools here Ca. are talking about and some districts announced already, attendance two day a week in classrooms starting fall.
No firm details, While still trickling out stage 2.

OU was/is planning to go to a combination of in-person and online courses in the Fall but I am not sure if they were going to require students to be on campus. I wonder (*cough* football *cough*) if this will change anything...

Interestingly there is no timeline for when they were going to tell us which classes were going to be online..HELLO I need to spend some time this summer (when I am not getting paid) transitioning my courses if they are to be online but I am not going to do it if I don't have to...

@pattar you are in a unique position- please help us updated on clues about what the universities are thinking.

If dd is going to be a freshman studying online from home next fall it sure would be nice to pay hundreds of dollars vs tens of thousands....

Lol..Professors are typically the last to find anything out ;) We just had a faculty meeting where the topic of online courses was brought up and when I asked when we would know what courses would be online they told us maybe late June but they were not sure. Department had to submit a list to the Deans's office to be approved/modified and then Provost office has the final say. I think the idea here at OU is to have a 50/50 mix in terms online/in person classes.

As I mentioned, I will need to transition my courses to online this summer if my courses are moved. The problem is that they are only going to allow a select number professors/students back on campus (e.g. those with time sensitive activities). You have to "apply" to be able to go back to your office. So in theory (wink wink) I won't be able to get into my office to be able to work on transitioning my courses unless I am approved to be able to get back in there. It is kind of silly, in the summer I might see 5 people in the building all day...

I have no idea what the plan is regarding student tuition/fees. The quality of the educational experience is certainly going to take a hit at first....unless Universities want to be fighting legal battles in court for the next 5 years something will have to be done imo..but again that is WAY above my pay grade.

All that said, the biggest problem I see is what is going to happen when the inevitable positive test case comes up? Are they going to shut everything down again? There is a lot of CYA going on right now. If they are going to open they need to figure out a way to operate in an environment where positive tests are inevitable.

Luckily I don't teach any lab classes..those would be HUGE pain in the arse to transition to online. Lecture courses are not so bad but still require some work. I don't mind doing it, even though like I said we don't get paid in the summer, but I would rather not do it if I don't have to ;)

Sports talk radio was reporting a rumor that the NCAA is considering flip flopping the seasons for the upcoming year.
Spring sports play in the fall and fall sports play in the spring. The thoughts being spring sports have a more natural social distancing compared to football. But it sounds like the real reason is to ensure a football $ea$on.
