I don't know. The population density in Florida is lower than New York, so the spread would be slower. That bought Florida some time. Perhaps people were already self isolating before the mandatory lock down. Maybe Florida just got lucky...
Yep lucky...

Allow me to be honest I'm skeptical; maybe for at least today in America that's still allowed. I'll share and then feel free to tell me these FACTS are incorrect.

On February 17th I watched Dr. Fauci tell all of America on a morning news show that the "Wuhan Virus" (It was okay to say that back then) was nothing for Americans to worry about. He even told Americans that they could safely go on a cruise if they didn't have a preexisting medical condition.
17 days later the same doctor told us that 2.2 Million Americans would die from the now termed Covid 19 virus.

I sat on my deck with my wife on the 4th day of our lock down in PA in sheer horror listened to Governor Cuomo telling the world that New York would need 40,000 ventilators. And if he didn't have 40,000 there would be "Thousands of people dying each day in NY". He added that NY was only the beginning and that your town would be next. He labeled NY as the canary in the coal mine. As a parent I looked at my wife and said "We need to prepare". We rushed out and like idiots bought all the food and essentials that would could carry home. Trump was on TV that night saying that he had no idea where that 40,000 ventilator number came from. Me and DW thought Trump was an idiot and Cuomo knew what he was talking about as he was closer to the situation. NY never needed 40,000 ventilators, I think we have a nurse or doctor in this thread who maybe can explain why, but nevertheless NY had not one patient who needed a vent that didn't get one. As a nation we are producing ventilators that will never be used.

I watched CNN (at the time my go to network) for nights on end ripping Florida for not enacting shelter in place orders as they have a significant elderly population and they would surely fare worse than NY who put into place some of the most stringent stay at home orders ever. I was horrified thinking that Florida would have thousands of deaths as the elderly population had no chance. We now see Florida opening up with so few deaths that states are asking them for advice on how to handle their own issues. Florida never had the level of deaths seen in NY and NJ. Could be it luck? Luck?

Our governor in PA told us that reason for our "lock down" was to prevent an overwhelming surge at hospitals.
I have 6 nurses in our family, including 3 in the city (Philadelphia) not one has reported an overwhelming surge in cases, and not one has even claimed to see any stress at their hospitals.

On Sunday my best friend who lives in DC texted me that he received a voice message from Michelle Obama imploring the citizens in the District to stay home at all costs. Mrs. Obama shared that they were only to leave their homes if the situation was life sustaining. I learned today that her Husband Former President Obama was on the links on Saturday playing not 18 but 27 holes at the country club he belongs to in Virginia. You know... that Saturday in the Northeast where it was so nice out.. You probably sat at home in your back yard wishing your were golfing or playing catch with your daughter at a park.

Let me say that I am very very sorry for the loss of lives due to this virus. There are so many people and families who have been impacted by this horrible virus. There are so many health care workers who have had their lives turned upside down by this. We need to use facts to guide our thinking, and the points stated above prove that facts were not used to measure our response to this virus. You sure can disagree but you can't deny the facts posted. And no, it's NOT EVIL to disagree with the extreme overreaction of the government to this virus. You are still allowed to have a different point of view. Two days ago 2 well respected California Doctors posted a YouTube video sharing a point of view that the shelter in place order in California was an over-reaction. They used the largest state study ever complied to bolster their case. The casualty rate for Covid-19 in California is .01%. Their video was removed for violation of terms by YouTube. Reason? It disagreed with the World Health Organizations view of the virus. The same World Health Organization that said on January 18th that the virus was not spreading human to human, even though China knew on December 28th that it was. The same World Health Organization that told Americans that there was no need to wear masks. Last week the WHO told the US to require masks. And you think that these people know what they're taking about?
It's okay to question our leaders, they have absolutely no idea what they are talking about.

BT, you really should have added at the end of your post, "SOFTBALL IS GREAT!" So, it would be softball related. Now, since your post, even though this "thing" has affected every single one of us, is not softball related, it will soon be locked.

BTW, SOFTBALL IS GREAT!
