Fauci Says there is a way sports (ie Professional Sports) can resume this summer.... this does not sound good for softball to return before fall...

But that's one of the problems the modeling is turning out to be horribly in accurate. from 1-2 million deaths in US was eventually revised down to 60-80 thousand.....that's a huge range....and the IMHE data was the reason our state shut down....it didn't take away our state leaders concern, they pointed to the IMHE as the reason for shut down stay home. Eventually the numbers became lower from the IMHE but the decisions were already made and stay home in place. Decisions were made on based on the IMHE data that turned out to be very inaccurate. Half the deaths in our state have been at nursing homes. Sad...but that's not the general population roaming about either.

And it may have saved your life.

Was going to point out simular number scenarios here in the US. States that are doing incredibly well opposite of the hard hit late reactive states.
Re-open these healthier states with modifications.

We will reopen states. I haven't seen any "valid" person (including us here) ever say not to. I do hear lots of morons of facebook make the claim that we'll never open. Which is absurd.

Just need to be safe, smart and ready when we do it. We've been sitting on our couches for 4 weeks. We can do a few more. Again, sad we can't be like other countries and give money/aid to people who lost jobs and need help. Aren't we supposed to be the richest country in the world?

Here in MA, the progression has looked like this:

4/3/20 there were 10,402 cases

4/10/20 there were 20,974 cases

4/17/20 there were 34,402 cases

Rate of daily increase has gone from 15% to 11% to currently a little over 7%. I'm guessing we'll have another two to three weeks of increasing numbers, then will start to slowly decrease.

I think the plug on in-person school will be pulled around April 27th. As far as re-opening businesses, will depend on what the testing capacity looks like. Maybe some time the latter half of May, early June. Virus gets a vote, though.

No sports this summer.

I would really like to see a comparable graph of Sweden that shows what percentage of people in Sweden have antibidodies for the Covid virus vs the other countries in the graph. I realize that graph is not available. It would be nice to know if herd immunity would work.

Nothing more than my personal opinion but staying indoors for another month or two is not going to work or happen. I am looking out my door and I see kids playing together, families hanging out together, etc. Sorry but people are already sick of being stuck inside.

Or it may be our biggest mistake ever. Right now there is no proof that having had coronavirus means you can't get it again. That's a huge assumption that while likely, is not yet proven true.

The learning curve is a work in progress. My perspective to the flogzilla comment.
The unknown higher numbers of asymptomatic infected could
lower the mortality rate, by being survivors.

Whether or not people who have already survived the virus and have antibodies can actually come down with a second bout of the virus is a separate conversation.

Blaine you really think no travel ball for us in mass this summer. I’m assuming high school will get canceled in a week but hoping for some summer ball. I know they canceled up til mid May so far

Barring a pharmaceutical breakthrough,
no, I don't think there will be any type of summer sports in MA. Believe me, I hope I'm wrong, but given where the numbers are currently and how much testing needs to ramp up . . .

I think the goal in MA this summer will be to test a lot and develop/implement a very good contact tracing system, so that small businesses can open (even a little) and try to be in a good place so that schools can open in September. Pro & Youth sports will fall into the "not yet" category.

As a high school coach and first year travel coach this will certainly be a bummer but rather miss this year and keep everyone as healthy as possible

Millions of people didn't have an emergency fund. Interesting when this was the best economy in the history of the world. Guess it wasn't. It's sad to me that we live in a country where missing one paycheck causes such disaster for families. That same phenomenon is why many are forced to risk their health to get back to work.
People don’t have emergency funds because they didn’t create one, has nothing to do with the economy. People spend more than they make thus they live paycheck to paycheck. I know that’s not the case for everyone, some don't earn enough to save but the average family doesn’t save when they could.
