This is a quality thread. Here are my three biggest ones -

1. Runner on third with less than two outs not tagging up on a fly ball only seconds after the 3B coach told them to tag up on a fly ball.

2. Runners on 1st and 2nd or bases loaded and a hard ground ball hit back to P. P fields it cleanly and immediately throws to first.

3. Catchers back picking runners that they have absolutely no chance to pick off when facing the bottom of the line up in a close game.
And three quality complaints they are! Yeah, this thread picked up some steam, some angry guys out there! ;)

Not my daughter so I did not get upset but definitely a "great googily moogily" moment. HS Sectional game. Top of the 7th. visitors down by 1. 2 outs. Pinch runner inserted at 1st. Pop-up to no mans land, and the runner freezes 10 feet from 1st base. The ball drops and she sashay's into 2nd base. Of course she should have been standing on 3rd. The next pitch goes to the back stop and now she takes 3rd. The batter makes the out to end the game with the runner on 3rd.

What drives me nuts is my dd's total lack of understanding (or caring) that her success on the field is a direct reflection of my parenting skills and ability to brag on Facebook. Kids just don't get it, you would think she cared about me more after all I do for her.

Delayed dead ball, once BR touches home plate. Runners cannot advance on a dead ball.

Edit: Nope. Just dead ball. Did find a note that the umpire could not return a ball into play until the pitcher was on the plate and all defensive players were in fair territory. Still would like to understand what the exact ruling was in the Alabama game. I saw that happen live that day, and they were being sloppy!
A delayed dead ball is listed inteh rules as the result of a
So a hug is assisting the runner? That is what the umpire has to determine and yes it is a judgement call but any umpire who makes that call is taking him or herself too seriously and any coach who tries to get that call made is an arse. I don't care if you show me 2000 examples of the call being made. Hugging a runner rounding third after an over the fence HR gives absolutely zero advantage to the offense...
No a coach that hugs a player on the field needs to evaluate why they are there. Boundaries between a coach and player are very important, this was a female coach, but it is even more important for a male, especially when it's not your daughter. Even an accusation from a third party can mess up your life. Games are time for the coach to be professional not touchy. There is a time and a place for everything, even if the ump didn't make the call this was not appropriate.

So that would be a No to the question regarding whether hugging is assisting the runner. Thanks.

I was talking strictly rules of the game and not rules of conduct..if you have issues with your coach being too "handsy" with your kid take it up with her...
