Make sure you check with your local league at 8U could still be using those softer, squishy balls, sometimes called Safe T I think, just depends on your local rules
Out here we use 10-inch RIF balls in 8u.

In Northern California we resisted going to 10" balls for a while, to we figured out a lot of throwing bad habits were from using a ball too big for their hands.
