I’m not a professional sports recruiting editor, but I am a professional communicator (despite some of my online presentations ;) ).

I’m happy to proofread communications ... especially if you want to pay me. Personal opinion, a it’s a great learning opportunity for a student though.

I agree the email doesn't have to be "fancy" But, I think "perfect grammar" is required.

Not based on some of the emails DD got from some coaches. One coach at one high academic in particular seems barely literate.

Seriously, let the kid write it, you review (not edit) the first few until you feel they have it down themselves and then let then do it. If they ask for a review after that, then great.

Coaches don't have to go through the admissions process..

I think getting into the habit of proofreading what you write and making sure the grammar is acceptable (perfect might be a stretch as I would guess 99% of coaches and 98% of native English speakers wouldn't even know what perfect was anyway..) is a good idea.

Coaches know your DDs are 14,15,16 years old.

They are not looking for emails written by Earnest Hemingway.

Let DD write them, you proofread, correct grammar, but try not to get too fancy.

DD put the wrong coaches name on one email. She has a separate account for recruiting that I check periodically. I noticed she had put the wrong coaches name on the email and had her email the coach and apologize. The coach sent a nice email back within an hour telling her not to worry about it. He told her it happened more often than you would think. At the time that school was heavily recruiting her but it was barely on her radar. Fast forward a year and that is the school she is committed to. Dd and the coach still share a good laugh about it.
