Wooden bat? That is very dangerous. Could have gotten a splinter. LOL
When MLB players take batting practice, its from about 50 feet and 70 mph. They seem to make the adjustment come game time. Also all MLB teams have cages and employ pitching machines.

Don’t most mlb teams have Iron Mikes that throw with an overhand motion?

There is a lot of video on MLB players hitting in the off season. I can't think of one that shows an iron mike. Maybe someone has video. I know the Cardinals used to use the Jugs Curveball Machine back in the day.

Getting timing down with a machine is tough.
I like them for bunting and outfield drills.

We have a couple of HS and former college age pitchers that help us in the winter with live pitching.

We need to use a screen which the older girls pitching really dislike until they see the velocity of the comebacks and it's ok.
