So this season Kansas USSSA tournaments has adopted this awesome rule. Essentially a $200 fine for not booking through them to stay. Keep in mind this specific tournament is well within our driving distance because i commute every single day for work between the two cities. Apparently they have a mileage rule of 60 miles anything farther and you have to book through them or pay the fine FOR EACH TOURNEY.

So don't play USSSA and feel free to (politely) tell them why.

I am sure there is a bunch of other teams who see this as an issue for them as well. Get with all the other teams and make your own tournaments. Put a better product on the table. Vote with your feet.

USSSA is way better than ASA here. Not a ton of options. 60 miles out for stay to play is BS. SHould be twice that distance at minimum.

When people are unhappy it takes surprisingly little to set up a competitor. It just takes someone or a group of someones to be annoyed enough to be willing to put the work in.

USSSA, ASA, PGF, NSA, etc.. they are flags to organize under when you need them. There are teams to have a tournament - that is all you need to have options.

We run into stay and play rule a few times a season.. just use the $200.00 buyout option. maybe $15.00 a family when you break it up through the team.

This is more "Kansas City" metro than a KS deal and specifically towards PlayMSP which is the only org I have run into that does it around here. With that said... Tourneys in Wichita and immediate surrounding areas (Derby, Mulvane, Ark City, Hutchinson) have never been Stay to play.

Do with that what you will.

You are right until this year. Now it is state wide for all PLAYMSP tournies. This was for Wichita Monster Bash....

That is what we intended to do after talking it over. Ended up speaking with them and common sense prevailed and determined we could make the drive. But for all those teams that are farther away you will be getting this email. Wichita and Manhattan are two we dont usually stay due to how spread out my players are across central ks. Leave it up to each family.

As marriard said, vote with your wallet and your feet and let them know why. Until people stop registering for those tournaments, this deplorable practice will continue to spread.

Heck, you should be getting a discount for using their partner hotels.
