My daughter just received an offer from a division II school where normal tuition is 34k a year with room and board. My question is what amount of athletic money would be considered a good offer? She's a catcher... Thanks for replies!!

If she gets all her tuition paid for that's good deal. D2's are limited to 7.5 scholarships if they are fully funded.

It will vary from school to school, and while catchers usually demand a premium, ones that hit dingers get more than ones who don't. I would set your expectations @ 50%, 75% if your DD has a big stick.

To add, if your DD's name is Big Al AND hits Dingers you could probably get 110% paid for!

I looked at a random SEC school on the Flo article- the average scholarship was within a couple hundred bucks of the out of state tuition? Doesn’t seem possible.

Well, most mid-to-low major public schools I researched seemed to average 100-120% of in state tuition and 40-60% of out of state tuition, where as private schools seemed to be < 50%.

Also, those with *big time* mens football and basketball programs were at the top end which would explain SEC averages considering title IX; i.e. the more they can spend on the men, the more they will be spending on the women's programs.

Gotta say, was surprised at the "avg" amount for our most local school. It's a D1, but private university. However, it's only one of 9 schools in state that has the major my DD is currently interested in, so she's started to show interest in their program. We only live 10 miles from it so she wouldn't have to have room and board.

Good is a vary subjective word. It's not the amount of the offer. It's the amount that you have to pay is what is important. Each family situation is a bit different. DD's former teammate is a preferred walk-on at a Big12 school. They get no money, and they are still happy with that. Other families that might receive 75% will not be happy because they still may not be able to afford to send their DD to school.
