Assistant coach told DS she will gain 20-25 pounds Fall semester. For those on the other side, what is typical? DS is thin and will gain weight no doubt, but that seems like a lot in 4 months. She is 5'10", 130#. I'm not worried, just wondering what others have seen.

Do not know situation but DD is not intentionally gaining whieght, seems wrong to to me,.

DD is slim too and could gain a few pounds.

She is going to hit better 20 pounds heavier?

I do think they equate muscle weight gain with more power and better hitting. They will be working with weights 3 days/week, cardio 3 days week, position practice/hitting 3 days a week. They want them to eat 5 meals a day and supplement with protein bars and shakes. I will say last year's team looked to be in great shape. I just think it's hard to gain weight when you are also working your butt off and burning calories at the same time.

My DD gained quite a bit of weight her freshman year, some from lifting and some from pizza and <ahem> other things I'm sure. She has spent a good amount of time this summer doing cardio to burn off the pizza, but the lifting does tend to bulk them up if they have a bigger frame to begin with. She's ripped for sure, her back and shoulders are crazy broad at this point, but this is not a good thing when trying to fit into dresses.

That seems like quite a bit for four months. I don't know how speed and agility couldn't suffer with that much put on that fast. As a side note, my DD is four inches shorter and 7-10 lbs heavier, and I don't know where she's hiding it. 130 lbs at 5'10 is pretty thin.

It can happen. My DD is 5'10". Last January she was 133 lbs. Now she is 152lbs. No major workout program. Just nature kicking in.

Be careful. My dd was recruited as a center fielder. She was moved to 1B and is 6 feet tall. She hit the weights hard. She lifted all summer long and did the trainer's "specialized nutrition plan" for her. We watched her go from a bean pole to not a bean pole. She is incredibly strong now. I do my best to not get angry about that "specialized nutrition plan" that included all of the supplements etc to make her stronger. I don't blame anyone else but it changed my dd and I believe forever.

Jake went from 110# to 130-140# without much in the way of weights. She would get by on only 3,000 calories a day. As long as it is muscle it is all good.

Uh...my oldest DD lost 10-15 lbs...of muscle, when she started college softball...
She was powerlifting with me for 3 years prior to going to college, and was at 5'10" 185 lb+...and looked like a taller version of Ronda Rousey...(seriously)
Uh ya...her college of choice does very little, if any, power lifting... all frickin' runnin' and yoga BS...
The Rousey shoulders/arms are gone, and so is alot of the power...
...she looks like she needs a peanut butter sandwich or two...and a couple of 45 lb plates on the bar to rep out...

What a frickin' waste... vent over...

My kid gave up softball for college volleyball. But from the time we dropped her off to when we saw her again for her first scrimmage (about 3 weeks), she had lost so much weight, we were seriously concerned for her health. She's always been fit and yet still a big eater. But she physically could not consume enough calories for what she burned during preseason training. So, I say all of that to say, your daughter's mileage may vary.
