Today DD was playing in a showcase. A D2 coach asked her coach if she could move to ankther position. DD hit a HR later in the game. After the gane the coach talked to her and offered a scholarship amount and told her she wanted her as a starter on the team at that position. This school was not on dd's radar but it seemed obvious this coach new her.
I wandered if this is common. It seemed odd to me to get into that much detail right after a tournament game. Espicially since it was their first contact they had. Has anyone else had an experience like this?
Prior to this dd had lots of interest from d3 schools. Some serious interest from d2 schools and some interest from mid level d1 schools.

If a coach sees what they like, and the player fills a gap on the roster, they go for it. If you think the school is a good fit for you DD, schedule a visit. If she is going to be a Senior, you better take a hard look. If she has more time, slow roll it.

Congratulations on the offer! When your DD makes her "top-10" list, use a pencil, there is a 98.2% chance that her first list and final list will be dramatically different.

This is about it.

How old is your DD? I am seeing a lot of D2 coaches trying to take advantage of offering 2020 and 2021's they like to see if they can sew them up before the D1 schools are allowed to talk to them Sept 1 of their Junior year. It may or not work, but they certain see an opportunity

If your DD is a rising senior, then the D2 school is gap filling - and yeah, if they see an uncommitted player that fills that gap, then they are going for it. Why not. They have immediate needs.

It is also great when both parties have interest. Do your research - see if it is a fit academically. See what gap your DD would be filling. And so on... do your research. It is like dating - it is kind of a "I like you" and "I like you too" - and then you explore that to see where it goes.

I will say this - we tell ALL our players about offers - "Don't just go with the first offer because you got it - if you are good enough for one offer, you are good enough for several." - one of our assistants puts it another way - he says "Don't marry the first boy you kiss"

I love this line and have told my 11yo DD the same when trying out for teams!

Thanks for the input. DD is a 2020 so you may be right about the d2 coaches trying to get ahead or the coach may have just really liked what she saw.
