DD's new catching coach told me privately at the end of the lesson that DD is educable. She said that is one thing college coaches are looking for, a player who will learn quickly.

Makes sense to me, but does that ring true for those of you who have gone through the recruitment experience?

On this list, "being coachable" is one of my favorites. I think learning quickly would fall under this. Learning quickly allows a coach to move onto the "next thing." This is something I would tell my DD a lot. As long as I (or her coaches) has to remind her of something she's been taught, or told a thousand times, we can't work on the next thing.

To this day, when she warms up and plays catch, she'll throw the ball at the other player's feet occasionally, drives me bonkers. Throw at her head, her chest, anything... have a target. Just don't throw the friggin ball randomly ... rant over.

Sorry, I have never heard or seen this word used before so I had to look it up....learn something new everyday!

Per Dictionary.com -
educable [ej-oo-kuh-buh l] See more synonyms on Thesaurus.com adjective. capable of being educated. of or relating to mildly retarded individuals who may achieve self-sufficiency.

Being coachable and having a short memory/good attitude are qualities that seem to be in high demand.

Damn spell check. The coach said educatable, or something like that. If it is even a real word. I don't think the coach was not suggesting my DD is mildly retarded.

DD's HC recently told me that DD is coachable, so I'll take that is what the catching coach meant.

LOL - I am 100% sure that's what he meant! Glad you took that the right way and didn't get offended, I've heard a lot of new words from coaches before so his using the word "educable" wasn't too far-fetched as a descriptor. Frankly, I was kinda surprised that it even came up when I searched for it. Oh the stuff we can learn on DFP!

I chuckled to myself when you said he. It has gotten to the point where DD only wants to coached by college players. I think she feels most comfortable with women coaches. She had to opportunity to try out for good a team with all men coaches, and passed.

He, She...what's the diff? ;-) I do see that you clearly stated "She" in the original post, not sure why I said he except for in my mind I was being reminded of one our past male coaches who loved to make up new words that got the point across. We've had drill sergeants and softies of both genders coaching in the past....learned something from everyone.

Diff enough to make me chuckle. I had imagined if I told DD that she had a new catching coach named Chris. We drive up the field and she saw a man standing there, she would refuse to get out of the car.
