I'm the kind of person who prepares for anything that might happen in life. I'm preparing for anything that could go wrong and have a plan B in case something happens to the original plan. I teach my children this as a great life lesson. So, I need some advice about recruiting after committing. My daughter just committed to a school right before the new rules went into effect. She will be a junior next year.

We all hear about the girls who have committed and before they make it on campus, a coach has dropped them, a coach has taken away a lot of the offer, been fired, etc...and the recruiting process had to start all over again. So, as a plan B, I still want my daughter to go to a camp this summer to a school that was very interested in her. I want to look after my daughter and prepare for things that could happen that are out of our control, but this seems like a very slippery slope.

Is this a no-no or is it something that should be done? What are your thoughts???

.

I've got a question about attending a college camp that my daughter is not committed to.

My dd had her offer decreased at the initial school she was going to attend. Until your dd's name is on the NLI, she is fair game since that verbal is non binding for both parties. DD ended up going to a school that was not in the running at all.

Verbals were somewhat precarious before the new rules. Now I'd consider any verbal null and void until you're able to communicate with the coaches again.

My DD had a verbal withdrawn... She isn't able to lie, or even shade the truth, so it was a tough tightrope. "You're one of my top schools" was a common phrase, and "I've verbally committed to X, but if things don't work out..." Honesty didn't hurt her, luckily.

It depends on who I committed to. If it's a program with a track record of not reducing aid or dropping commits I would not look elsewhere. However, if they have shown they will do this then you really have to consider other options.
