Just curious because I have no idea. Do D3 schools provide scholarships? Or does an offer just mean that you can come play for us if you get in? Same with D2?

D3 there’s no commitment to the player and from experience recruited players can get cut (even after successful seasons). Do a little research - check team rosters for last 4 years or so and see how many graduating seniors are left 4 years later. You are in the right place to get advice. Beware of D3 coaches who don’t work for the school full time - and if you can find out their occupation - avoid sales people. They over recruit because they can’t say no to a “sale” and in their defense, they don’t know who will show up at freshman orientation. It’s got to be a school the player wants to get their education from regardless. Lots of reasons freshman don’t play 4 years - but slim #s at Jr Sr level says their may be a coach problem, or school problem.

FWIW DS is currently a HS junior and has been receiving D3 “offers” faster than I can count. He’s been invited to “select” camps from Washington to Florida. The hitch is, he hasn’t played a single down of varsity or even JV football.

That part is interesting. How did schools even find him?

I don't think my player is at all interested in this particular school. I think this will be a good experience for her, could get her more exposure, etc. I've actually stressed that this particular coach/college aren't so important. It's the fact that someone is interested and wants to watch her play that matters.

He was on the roster last fall, but out all year with a broken leg. He signed up on the NCSA site so they can find his name, school and position and his size is kind of eye catching. Several are written as if they've seen him play and can't wait to get him in uniform. The rest are generic, "check out our school" like every other kid gets.

Whatever the reasons it's nice to hear a college is interested and good experience to talk with them. Might be just what it takes to motivate her. I had my son call back just to get used to answering questions with more than one word answers.
