Good luck to your favorite teams playing over the next several weeks. Should be some great games and exciting time of year for watching high-level fastpitch! Go Pac 12!!!

Go Minnesota, Notre Dame, Auburn, Alabama, Oklahoma, North Dakota State, Drake and Arkansas!

I'm not real picky.

Minnesota and Notre Dame? Hmm...I thought B1G and ACC were "a bunch of crappy conferences to play in." -- your words ;-)

B1G and ACC are crappy softball conferences. To be fair, so is the bottom half of the Big 12.

I live in MN and DD knows half the team so I need to pull for them. A friend has a DD at Notre Dame so I want them to win too. It can be a crappy softball conference and still be a great school or the perfect fit. Just sounded like the priority was D1 softball and if so why not shoot for the best conference. I think you clarified later a top computer science program was her #1 criteria.

Mizzou is my hometown D1 team. Last 2 years have been hard to watch. Poor defense, poor baserunning, sub-par pitching, fighting against an offense that should win much more than it loses. They were embarrassed today, 9-1 loss in 5 to Tulsa. I'm now rooting for them to bring a top level coaching staff that can recruit (and keep) some top level pitchers.

There is a hometown NAIA team for us to cheer on. They just made it to back to back world series.

Some great game today... Lots of competitive games - only a few one sided games. Only a couple of teams seemed hugely out classed - depth did win out in most cases though. I didn't see Michigan losing to ND. I didn't see Ole Miss dominating like they did. I did have Tulsa winning - but not by totally dominating Missouri. Crowds look great.

If you ever wanted to see why college coaches are often no better than any other coach today's games should convince you. Some very good game coaching... and some deplorable coaching.

Someone needs to go out and read the substitution/reentry rules to about 10 coaches today. It is the SIXTH inning in a ONE RUN game and your slowest player is on base. Got to your bench and get SOMEONE - you can always reenter the runner when you take the field. It really doesn't matter who you put out there - they have to be faster than what you have currently. There were at least 3 outs and a missed opportunity for 3 or 4 runs in the games I saw.

Several times I saw runners on third with no outs and that runner never got even a sniff of home. No small ball (except Northwestern), lots of home run swings and lots and lots of strikeouts. You have to put SOME pressure on the fielders. Just watched Bosie State sub in a home run hitter on one out and bases loaded in the 8 spot - terrible idea on one out - two outs great idea - she struck out and nothing comes of it and the next girl grounds out to end the inning instead of getting a RBI out of it. ND State should have won by 4 with better in game decisions.

The Northwestern coach ALWAYS squeezes with a runner on third and less than two outs - which is a better strategy than others today. I knew that from watching ONE game in the BIG10 tournament. But apparently their opponents didn't. Nearly worked twice and NW won by ONE.

Your exhausted ACE pitcher is NOT better than your second pitcher. It will get you sooner or later. If you don't have decent 2nd option that is also on the coach.

On the other side:

Have been impressed with coaches of Northwestern. Dot Richardson is doing a great job at Liberty. It must be nice to be at Texas State and having Cat be your pitching coach.
Credit to Ohio State for going to freshman with only 4 at bats to pinch hit and she gets a double - actually credit to Ohio State in general - they looked awful when I saw them in February and they are doing a lot with what they have. Credit to JMU for wining with a new coach and their #1 pitcher out.

The Duck Mascot at Oregon is annoying and stupid.

And most importantly, Precious Birdsong (CF, MTSU) is BY FAR the best name in college softball. Autumn Storms (Arkansas) is second.
