DD is a freshman at a Div 2 school and not real happy with the coaching she is getting from HC and one of AC's. There seems to be very little coaching/instruction/help for girls that are struggling with parts of the game where as she has always had good instructional coaches that would help get girls out of slumps etc in the past. There also seems to favourtism going on with a couple players that have worse numbers at the plate and no better defensivly and one is a freshman as well. For the record my DD is getting her fair share of playing time as a freshman and has 'ok' #'s at the plate with a .265 BA , 3 HR with 50 plate appearnces.
Would it be a big mistake to try and discuss with HC?

I agree with Sweet Lou. Especially for a college player, I seriously doubt the coaches want to hear much from the parents. But a player asking for help wouldn't seem out of line to me at all. A lot of this is going to vary from school to school. A player I work with gets very little instructional help from her college coaches at all. She sends me videos of her hitting once in a while and I will reply with some pointers. But to be honest, I spend more time just trying to build her confidence.

Your adult DD definitely should talk about it with the HC.

You should keep your distance.

Can they yes, should they? Hell no.

This. Coaches don't want to hear from players that the coaches are playing favorites or not coaching well. For what it's worth my DD is in a similar situation except she is a transfer student from a JUCO. The coach that recruited her left right before the school year started and the coach, and I use that term loosely, they hired has been a major disappointment. DD just takes it and keeps her mouth shut.

It's OK for your daughter to ask for feedback in the quest to be a better player. She should not discuss favortism or her lack of playing time.

In no way should a parent approach a college coach or AD unless they suspect abuse or something illegal is going on.

I say go far for it, what could go wrong.....while your at it...any of her professor not instructing your DD correctly either......
I joke of course......
Added:Your DD should discuss 'things' with the coaching staff. It will show them that she is concerned and not satisfied with her batting/fielding and is looking for ways to improve. Coaches like that players want to work on making improvements to their game.

I agree but will add that if your DD has an injury that sidelines her for awhile it is fair to talk to the trainer and the staff about that. The young DDs, although 18+, may not have the experience to talk to the docs about alternative treatments or second opinions.
