Does anyone know when the NCAA will vote on the change proposal? I agree with everything said on the video but at the same time I find it funny that some of the coaches in the video are some of the worse offenders of what they say they are against. Take LSU for example their 2021 recruiting class is filled already and it has 5 commits for the class, which all verbal-ed before their first day of high school. Do you think that some of these coaches are advocating this just for appearance sake? Some coaches do seem to stick by their morals a little better like Alabama from what I have seen and heard they will not openly show a potential recruit interest until they started the 9th grade. I was told that coach Evans is also another coach that has a really hard time offering any type of scholarship to someone younger than 9th grade but can be influenced by TB coaches to go against her beliefs or talked into offering a certain player she is on the fence about. If anything the video states some interesting statics. Link to vid is below.

I agree with curtailing early recruiting, but I thought the video was a joke. If 87% of D1 coaches are opposed to early verbals then quit doing them. Tennessee has been one of the major offenders with early verbals and cutting girls free yet they lead off with Karen Weekly telling us it has to stop. Really??? May as well have been Tim Walton. Then the softball stars and media personalities tell us early recruiting has to stop, but they have no problem taking $$$ to appear at showcases and nationals where its most prevalent. I stopped watching when they got to leaders of major travel programs speaking against it. Scaring the hell out of families that they need to join their programs to get committed by 9th grade is their bread and butter. If these clowns all wanted early recruiting to stop they’d quit profiting from it.

Agreed! If you want it to stop just don't do it.

I would say that the coaches that are currently participating in early recruiting and are also advocating for the end to this practice are probably tired of it. This is just a guess but they all probably feel that they have to recruit earlier and earlier to keep up with the other teams doing it and to stay competitive. All it takes is one coach in a conference to build their program through early recruiting and the rest then feel that they have to do this to keep up. The end result is that they are all afraid to police themselves. They all know that there will be a couple teams out there still doing it and that they have to keep up with them to remain competitive and keep their jobs.

On a side note I think it is telling that the one coach who seems to be the worst offender at early recruiting here lately was not featured in this ad.

It is just utterly ridiculous that if you're a ninth grader and you haven't already verballed at somewhere like LSU, you're already out of luck. That is sheer insanity. This crap has to stop. And they wonder why kids are so stressed and suicide rates are on the rise. Seriously, it's just complete BS. Someone has to take the lead and then others will fall in line if they really care about the girls vs. the prestige and the job.

Let them play. Let them develop. Let them have fun. And let them start worrying about recruiting junior year. That's my two cents.

I have a problem with the hypocrisy of the coaches. They say early recruiting needs to end and then you see them watching 12U teams play. We actually played a 12U team at Scenic City that was allowed to play up this past fall and yes college coaches were there to see them and yes two of them were in this video. You would have to be able to see the future because even though you could tell they had talent there was no way I could have looked at any of them and said she is a DI lock.

During that game while talking to a coach about our team I asked where they were on our class (primarily 2021's with a couple of 22's). She told me they were looking at teams to figure out who to follow but had only offered one 2020 as of this past fall and the 2020's are first year 16's. Her philosophy is she had rather offer a kids that she can be 95% sure on their development versus one she thinks will be a star but has 5 years before she will hit campus.

Totally agree about the hypocrisy. I don't get to talk to coaches very much but I wonder if they actually feel pressure to early recruit or is it just a way to save face. One young lady that I know who is a 2022 pitcher, that has verbal-ed with one of the coaches in the video, told my DD that when she was offered a scholarship to not go public with it until they tell her she can. The reason being they had to cut another young lady loose that they had offered a scholarship to prior to her. A couple of months after she accepted the verbal, she announced it through social media.

I thought that the video stating that 1 in 4 athletes offers change by the time they reach college is ridiculous. I would really like to know the ages of the players when they verbal-ed, that had the agreement change on them and the reasons behind it.

WTF????
Though, I remember hearing Haley mclenny mention being recruited/committed in 8th grade and it was she or someone else who spoke of the pressure to get verballed in 8th grade, kind of like musical chairs, where everyone else was getting offers and youre thinking you are washed up if you haven't been verballed in 8th grade.
Ridiculous!
There is more to life...

The solution for this is so simple. Just make offers binding for both parties. That will make everyone slow down and think things through a bit more.
