I saw that somewhere else, could have been a much better response from the coach but he might have a valid concern.

Hopefully the university will figure it out.

Maybe a school policy, for all sports, asking for a drug test before pursuing anyone from these states past the hello stage. IDK.

If a big stud from CO sends an email... "Coach you're my #1 school and I want to come play for you.", lets see how he responds. I would put money on it being differently.

The school has already put out an official response to the discriminatory email, saying the coach's response is "in no way a reflection of Texas Wesleyan University, its values or its recruiting practices."

One of the most idiotic things I've heard lately (and in the day and age there's plenty to choose from).....bias, discrimination and stupidity right there. Like CO (or any of the states where it's legal) is the only place that kids can access weed....could you get any more blind to reality?

I am still amazed at the number of D1 athletes who fail drug tests. When DD was going through the recruiting process one coach told us their school drug tested all athletes every 6 months with random tests in between. DD has already had two tests and has not even been there a year. It is not a question of IF you will be tested, it is a matter of WHEN.

Jake had the same experience at SC. They not only performed the usual 10 panel but also tested for all kinds of "performance enhancing" substances. There are all kinds of things at GNC that will show up on a test so during certain times of the year she could only take supplements that had an FDA label. When she got sick she saw the team doc who wrote scripts even for over the counter medications.

Exactly...if you are an athlete (or involved in any "covered" business) today and there is a stated drug policy like most schools or professional sports have you'd better take it seriously and adhere to it strictly if you want to continue playing or working. Ignorance is not bliss anymore and if you or your trainer don't understand and follow the rules then shame on you.

DD has already been drug tested. At least 2 people from the team are tested every month, so most of her team has been tested while she has been at school this year, a few more than once.
