My daughter attended a D2 camp last weekend. She seemed to do well, and a few of the girls on the team commented on how they all thought she was older than a high school freshman, they complimented her catching abilities and definitely her hitting. Coach gave her a few well dones . A few days after the camp my daughter sent back an email to the coach thanking her for the camp and she expressed desire to attend more camps and she is very interested in that school. It’s definitely in the area and size school she wants to attend. She did not receive back an email yet. Are the coaches allowed to answer the email? It’s only been a couple of days. If she doesn’t receive a reply back should she take that as coach isn’t interested and move on?

Right Here For Now
DD plays D2 and they are now in season. It started 2 weeks ago. The coaches aren't allowed to contact her at this time and quite honestly, even if allowed, they probably wouldn't because they have the more pressing matter of getting their teams ready to compete for the season. That said, other than sending her camp/clinic information, no communication is allowed (in theory) until she's a Junior unless she's on campus. IDK what the new rules will entail. I'll have to talk to DD's coach and find out how it affects the various divisions next year.

Just keep blasting emails at the coach (and include little snippets about watching the team and how they are doing), and when the communication window opens up, give the coach a call directly.

One of the hardest things for D2 coaches to do is recruit really good players. "This girl has D1 talent, do I really want to invest my time recruiting her until she is a junior?" is a tough thing to deal with. If you are really good and express a lot of interest then you get their attention - but they will constantly worry you will suddenly go somewhere else.

Obviously, I am a fan of D-II Softball. The coaches can't contact your dd as of now. If they liked her, they have her on the radar. When my dd was being recruited, the coach at that time had various boards up in his office where he had marked his top recruit candidates. I am betting since your dd is a catcher and they are worth their weight in gold, you dd's name was put on a list.

Good info. Thank you all. She felt very comfortable there and it’s on her short list.

Take your daughter to some of their home games. Hang around after the game to say a quick "hi" to the coach. This will let the coach know that your daughter is interested in their program.
