Thoughts and prayers heading her way. DD has recently been diagnosed with a partially torn labrum in her pitching shoulder, so I have been studying about the various injuries. Luckily the surgeon does not feel surgery is necessary at this time. She has also been diagnosed with GIRD, and the surgeon feels most of her pain is coming from that. He is recommending PT but feels she will be ready for her senior season of high school ball. I told her about your DD and she stated she will be watching her closely, and cheering her on. So we have at least one more Duke fan in this household.

Regarding hip labrum injuries. I know that there are several types and severities. The fact that the surgeon is delaying surgery is a good sign to me. A member of our high school football team was diagnosed with a hip labral tear halfway through the football season. He was able to play through it and help the team to a State Championship. He then went on to begin the varsity basketball season before shutting it down in mid-January for the surgery. He is already back in the weight room doing work on the stationary bike. He is very limited at this point, but it has been less than 4 weeks since his surgery. He is expected to be back at full speed for summer sessions (football). So even if the surgery ends up being necessary, she will hopefully return to action quickly. Best of luck!

If it's anything like a torn labrum in the shoulder, they don't usually get any worse. It's just a matter of dealing with the pain. DD pitched her senior year with a torn shoulder labrum while doing PT twice a week. She lived on ibuprofen and ice. Hope the best for your DD.

So sorry to hear it.

Came on this site to tell you DD1 turned on YouTube to look for softball games. She asked me to watch with her and found out she picked the first game at Duke. Quite an impressive day, and impressive firsts for your DD.

Hope she has a complete and speedy recovery.

Tell your DD1 to keep watching, our defense got better after the first game! LOL

I injured my shoulder. I could windmill my arm fine but if I lifted my arm to the side the pain would make me drop to my knees. After 3 cortisone shots and 8 weeks of PT it didnt get better. They finally gave me an MRI and told me "you have a torn labrum". Recovery from surgery took a while because they had to clean out all the muscle and scar tissue built up from the steroids and PT.

I had a great beer league softball season though I was injured. Led league in outfield assists.*

* tested positive for performance enhancing drugs.**

** I had a doctors note

How is DD feeling?

Thanks for asking! She had a cortisone shot last week and had to miss practice for 3 days, but it seems to be helping. She is keeping it iced after every practice and game and is taking ibuprofen to keep down the inflammation.
