I just want to echo what Girliesmom stated earlier in the thread, practice tests are very beneficial.
My daughter just received her ACT score back and improved it 4 points (and it was already fairly high) through practice tests online. Just searched, printed out content and in some cases did some online stuff. No additional cost other than her time which amounted to about 6-8 total hours over the course of 2-3 months, Sunday afternoons. Just limited her Netflix time. It allowed her to get familiar with the text structure, understand areas where she was incorrect (such as too many commas, etc) and that was very valuable.
She was pumped and came racing down the hall to report the score.
I think there is a good story in this to coaches as well, showing that in addition to school work and softball, she took extra time to study and improve scores.
