Nice summary of what is being decided and it's impact. I see little to no downside with making this change.

Nice summary of what is being decided and it's impact. I see little to no downside with making this change.

I see huge downside and cost for parents and players - though not for the coaches:

1) It doesn't stop all the pinkie promise verbal stuff going on. Coaches can continue to talk to travel coaches, parents, recruiting agents, etc, etc as go betweens
2) There is NO WAY to enforce anything new. The NCAA doesn't have the resources. The coaches have proven over and over again they can't police themselves
3) And this is really the big one - The loophole is camps - so now instead of trying to get multiple coaches to come see you at showcases you have to go on campus to have them talk to you. They have to travel less and they make more money.

So now camps will fill up and expand, coaches make extra $$$ directly and supposedly players will have NO idea where they stand until they are juniors. And while officially verbals go away, that will just mean more backroom promises made but hey, since they are even MORE unofficial than verbals, if they are broken even less of a big deal than this already is
riseball idea that the rule becomes that you can commit anyone, anytime, but it is a true commitment once made solves all these and other problems. It is simple and enforceable.

What a load of horse dung. Have always said put up or shut up. SHOW ME THE MONEY!!! If Tim wants a 7th grader then sign her to a NLI binding them for 4 college seasons.

What's a load of horse dung? Personally I think the whole f'ing recruiting circus is a load of horse dung and happen to agree 100% with making every offer a 100% binding offer. That, as we all know, will NEVER happen in the current recruiting climate. It will probably also never happen under the proposed new rules either, but at least it may now be a feasible conversation given the shorter recruiting window.

I still see little to no downside. If you are a true stud, you should still be a true stud as a Junior and all offers will still be available to you. Could the stuff that marriard raises happen? Of course. There always going to be shady coaches/parents who look for ways around the rules. Anyone close to the lacrosse world? I'd be curious to know what the impact has been there operating under these rules.

Agree that there is no downside. But zero, zip, nada upside. It accomplishes nothing with respect to the issue of early recruiting.

I think showcases would go back to featuring 16U and 18U teams and 14U and 12U teams would have to wait their turn...camps can be somewhat moderated by not allowing coaches to interact individually with players at the camp. All interaction must be in a group setting.

I think it will get 12U and 14U teams out of showcases...

"...They will not affect the other 75% of college softball teams---e.g., Div. II, Div. III and NAIA programs."

A Div I coach won't need to be a rocket surgeon to continue business as usual.

Things will not change until you either forbid ANY contact prior to Junior year in HS or you let them sign an NLI at any point.

Sign in 12th grade - 1 year guarantee
Sign in 11th grade - 2 year guarantee
Sign in 10th grade - 3 year guarantee
Sign in 9th grade - 4 year guarantee
Sign in 8th grade or earlier - 5 year guarantee

Early recruiting will quickly be a thing of the past.

I really don't have a problem with 14U teams playing showcases. Most second year girls are entering the 10th grade so that would be one year out from their junior year and prime recruiting time under the guidelines. I do have a major problem with them letting 12U teams in. Twice in power pool games we played girls 2 years younger than us this fall and it was terrible. I do not care what organization the team is from they can not compete with good teams that much older than them.
