Yesterday a local girl 'committed' to a local D1 college. She is a 2020. She also frankly isn't all that good but she is physically impressive (tall, strong, looks athletic)

From what we know, that make 20 girls in that class committed to this college. And fifteen 2019's and ten 2021.
They signed 4 NLI's last season. Incoming class this year was 7 girls.

Also this is just the 'commits' we know. This program has 50% of their current players who are not from nearby states. No idea what 'commitments' they have made elsewhere.

Anyone see something mathematically wrong with these numbers......

BTW, we asked what was offered. Parents had no clue what the actual offer was apart from 'They offered us an opportunity to commit to XXXXX'. So no idea of what kind of scholarship, what kind of deal... nothing.

Does seem pretty high but there has to be a lot of attrition for various reasons.

Niebor signed with an SEC school freshmen year, pitcher. She had a ball. Sideline passes to football games, coaches would talk to her.

35 commits for 2019-2020....... 7 incoming freshmen........How big is their sophmore class?........DI only gets 12 scholarships........I bet they didn't talk specifics about $$$, they wouldn't get the commits if they did unless it is a dream school situation.
DD has an invite to college to have some "serious talk" with coaches. She has been there several times and toured with them before but they will be trying to get her to commit this time. We will know $$$ before we commit anything. Looking at the numbers the kids and parents you mentioned above are disillusioned if the majority of them think they will get a substantial offer.
I think the average number of DI players on roster is 21, some young ladies are gonna have dreams crushed their senior year.

Sounds like you have an understanding of what your DD and family are looking for in terms of an offer and commitment.

One of the advantages of coming to DFP is getting to know the ins and outs of softball and softball recruiting. Most families go into the whole process with no idea and way too often it just explodes on them.

Hard to believe that a school has 20 commits in one class. Most of them have to be walkons.

What school is it?

I figure the truth is the truth, and if it's not the truth, someone hear might be able to refute it.
