DD went to a college camp and was asked after camp to come back for a visit one day? She is going into her sophomore year. I'm new to the recruiting process.Does this mean she is now on their recruiting list?
Same here. Unofficial visit, we are going to a volleyball game and a football game. I would say yes to your question about recruiting, when I asked some parents of recruited kids about it they said that unofficial visits are sometimes where offers are made.
Another guy said when this happens they have already decided they want your daughter, they are just trying to decide if they want to be around them for four years, lol!
If they asked her specifically (like in a one-on-one conversation with the coach) as opposed to a general statement to all campers "It would be great to see you all back here for a visit someday", I'd say she is definitely on their list. What division is the school? In our experience, if the coach wants you to come back and visit - official or unofficial - that's a positive sign. If they start talking about an overnight stay in the dorm with players, that's a really good sign (although just going into sophomore year is too early for that).
I wouldn't say she's on their recruiting list yet. In our experience, coaches want to know that you like their campus and are really interested in attending before they get serious about recruiting you. They also can get some face time with the parents during the visit.
DD2 got her offer after she went to camp when she contacted the coaches and asked to come on an unofficial visit to see the facilities. If the head coach is the one who shows you around campus chances are they are really interested.
Have your DD contact the coach to set up the unofficial visit. A good way to guage their level of interestvis how much time the coaching staff dedicates to your DD during the visit.
Administrative staff/GA - Luke warm
Assistant coach - interested
Head coach - top priority
