DD plays for a team where the #1 pitcher is actively being recruited by a D1 school. Through out last week at nationals one or two of their coaches were at every single game. I found out on Thursday that they were actually coming to see DD. She was lucky enough to catch their eye thanks to a talented teammate and a couple of emails.

What is the next step and what should she do outside of continuing to reach out to them? She will be moving into her freshman year this week and her team will be in their second year of 14U starting this fall.

Congratulations! I would recommend staying in touch with the coaches and getting to one of their camps this fall if your DD is interested in the school.

Are D1 colleges actively recruiting freshman? I ask because it seems kind of young/early to me.

I know it seems early to me as well. It really seemed weird to see girls commit as 8th graders over the past year. The ones we know that committed were pitchers and catchers and I get the feeling that is where they start. DD is lucky to be playing with a talented pitcher that has caught the attention of some coaches so it has made it easier to get coaches out to see her when they are already looking at the pitcher.

Yes, niece fended off offers as freshmen. She still does not know what she wants to do as junior.

A player that graduated last year had all the free stuff she wanted from a SEC school since she was a freshman. Football tickets, etc.

My daughter is and she starts HS this week. Everyone from coaches, parents and kids think it's crazy, but it's happening.

Very common to start to recruit as a freshman. Many D1 pitchers commit as freshman
