They got screwed...
With a capital F...

I've watched many Gophers games this year on BTN plus...
I've watched many of the ULL games and SEC games this year...
I do not believe the Gophers are outside of the top 16 from the games that Ive seen.

Someone set up a wall for Lindaman to pound a ball over! :D

If Minnesota wants to host their fans need to go to a game. If it came down to Alabama versus Minnesota for the 16 seed it is obvious who the NCAA is going to choose. Last years average attendance at homes games were 2,271 and 628. Guess which one is the host? Minnesota would have been 11th in attendance in the SEC last season and this year team that were normally weaker ended up playing really well so it would probably be worse. Of course they did average 6 more fans per game the Jacksonville St Gamecocks of the OVC.

The preliminary polls release by the committee had MN @ 8th. How did they go from possibly hosting a super regional to unseeded? I understand their schedule is not good, but the cannot help that the rest of the B1G sucked this year. Even Michigan had a bad year by their standards.

I can agree with riseball to an extent.
I do not agree with Rambler34, if that is actually true. A team's ranking and Regional selection should not be based on game attendance.

I looked back at Michigan's 2015 season.
During the regular season they had a record of 48-6.
At the end of the season they were seeded #3, and got a Regional and Super Regional.
Early on in the season they beat teams like Alabama, Georgia Tech FSU and James Madison.
But in the latter half of the season they played the standard BIG 10 teams that they always would/do...

So yes, it's still my opinion that Minnesota got screwed for this Regional/Super Regional selection.

They finished the entire season with a 60-8 record.

Regardless of what they preach about being there for student athletes the NCAA is about money. This season Minnesota had a total attendance of 8335 for their 11 true home games. UofA drew over 12,000 for a 3 game series with AU a couple of weeks ago. At $10 a pop there is a huge difference in the money that can be brought in.

The home field is taken into account when selecting regional hosts. Just a couple of years ago Cal could not host because their field was not up to par. Auburn lost out on a baseball regional in the late 90's because of the size of the stadium. I am not an Alabama fan by no means but as long as they have a good season they will host because no one touches them in attendance.

Major screw job, IMO.

Yes, it was a weak schedule. But it wasn't much weaker than Oklahoma's or Baylor's, and Minnesota lost only 3 games. OK lost 8. Baylor lost 11. Minnesota beat #13 seed LSU.

Rambler has to be right about the attendance, except that I don't think it came down to Minnesota and Alabama. I think Minnesota was dropped several spots to #17, not just one. If they'd been drawing 2,000, I bet they would've been seeded in the top 10. The Massey Ratings have Minnesota at #3. And while I don't think they're that good, they deserved a lot better than #17.

OK, I'm not playing dumb here, and these are not loaded questions...

Does attendance really play a part in how these teams are seeded?
I'll be the first to admit...of course Alabama has a much higher home attendance than Minnesota does.
Didn't MN play over 25 games before they had their first home game this year?

But on a much grander scale, isn't this about TV ratings?
Even if Alabama has 2000-3000 more people attending each home game, isn't this actually about TV ratings.
Where there are hundreds of thousands of us watching on TV, irregardless of whether it's on Alabama of Minnesota?

There are going to be 100 million people watching the Super Bowl, whether it's in Miami, Dallas or in Minnesota, right? ( the Super Bowl is in MN this coming year)

Is it merely the appearance on TV of more people being at an Alabama Regional that makes the Sport of Women's Fastpitch SEEM more popular than it would in Minnesota?

Does the NCAA get the ticket money for the WCWS? Now the quality of the facilities can be a concern, as I am sure the NCAA would like a venue that can comfortably accommodate the anticipated crowds.
