My Dd is a JR and a pitcher. One school made an offer last year but is now putting some pressure on her for a commitment. School 2 has expressed a lot of interest but no offer yet. Is it bad form to call school 2 and ask what their level of interest is? Both schools are great academic schools and she has narrowed it down to these two schools.

If they made the offer LAST year and actually held the spot open and are still offering it I think they are OK to pressure you, I'm guessing they have at least another offer out there and will take the first one who commits...now if the offer is not that good and this school is DD second choice then maybe she waits but if I were you I would go to second school and let them know interest in her year group for pitcher is small and getting smaller you have an offer from another school but DD would really like to see an offer from them as well and ask them point blank do they plan to make any offer soon or have they moved on?

They have not made an offer to anyone else yet. What you stated regarding the second school was my thought process as well.

Just make sure DD is OK with the school and you are OK with the offer...if school 1 is a really expensive school and what they are offering would still cost more than school 2 you should factor that in as well.

always consider all the factors don't get focused on just one thing.

We have gone through both schools, starting with academics to campus and the very last thing was softball. Softball doesn't matter if the school doesn't offer her degree. Both schools are pretty even although school 2 may offer some financial help where school 1 does not have ball money but will help with outside scholarships. She likes both schools and both teams.

Yes absolutely fine to talk to School 2 and say "I really would like to come to your school for academics and softball, however I have a very strong offer from 'School 1' and I am at the point where I am ready to make a decision on which school I attend and they would like me to make a decision in the next week. If you are interested in making an offer, I need to know your real level of interest so I can make my decision."

Are both schools in the same NCAA division? You mention above that school 1 does not have ball money (which I assume means athletic money)...does that mean D-III, or is it a D-I/II school that doesn't do athletic money (like Ivy's) or doesn't have any left to give out for your daughter's year? If there is no ball money, what could they be offering at this point? My apologies if I'm misreading the post.

As many have said in this and other threads, it's important to get as full a picture as possible when making these decisions. Total COA, net price calculators, academic opportunities, etc. are all key. And as djcarter said, there is absolutely nothing wrong with asking school 2 for a read on their true level of interest.

Marriard - thanks for the wording. That call will happen today or tomorrow.
