Been starting the process of sorting through my kids spring schedules. It makes my head hurt!

It does appear that we may have a chance to attend a game at one or two of the colleges my DD (2021) is interested in going to. She's been in email contact with the coaches and attended camps at these schools.

Is there a protocol for how to handle this situation? Is it as simple as go enjoy the game and email the coach letting them know that you were there and had a great time watching the team? Or, should we have our travel coach let them know ahead of time that we will be there?

Thanks!

So.... email the coach saying you are going to be there. And call ahead of time to see if you can get a tour of the facilities and the university - remember they can't call you, but you can call them. You can also text a message saying you will call at X:XX time so they can make themselves available to take the call (remember they can't call you back if they miss the call - also remember if they don't pickup, it doesn't mean they didn't want to talk to you - they might just have had something else going on but can't text back and say that it is a bad time). Most coaches wont have time on game time (some will), but that is why they have assistants.

Always include your travel ball coaches/recruiting coordinators email. For the most part they CAN call them and they can become the go-between. For example, I got a call this recently saying that Coach X would love to get a call from Player Y on my team on Wednesday around 5pm which I then passed on to Player Y's dad.

I would recommend emailing and/or texting the coaches and letting them know a day or two beforehand that you plan to attend. Some may stop by and say "hello" and some may not acknowledge the fact you are there, but it shows interest in the program that you attended.

For a couple of teams/coaches, I would send an email letting the coach know we were coming and that I understood that the coach could not respond back. Most of the time, it worked out well and after the game, the coach found time to say something to BB. We only had one bad visit in this regard were the coach stiffed us two times after telling BB to wait around. We got to the game and she was BB walking up. She told her to stand by the fence and she'd be back. A few innings later, we took a seat in the stands as it was obvious she was not coming back. Then, she asked us to wait in the area of the field. We did and she left the park. LOL That was a pretty good indicator she was not interested. A player told us not to worry that the coach was going to get fired and she was.
