Does anyone know when a player is allowed to start taking official visits vs. having to go on unofficial visits? Are players limited to 5 official visits like they are in football?

For Div 1: Official visits are allowed beginning opening day of classes your senior year. You may make only one official visit per college and up to a maximum of five official visits to Div 1 colleges.

For Div 2: You may make official visits starting June 15 before your junior year. You may make only one official visit per college, however, there is no limit to the number of colleges you can do an official visit.

For Div 3: You may make official visits starting Jan 1 of your junior year. You may make only one official visit per college, however, there is no limit to the number of colleges you can do an official visit.

Is the "opening day of classes" for the high school your DD attends or the first day of classes of the college?

DD's high school classes start in early August, while most colleges do not start until Sept.

Great thread man!
Can stuff like this thread be pasted into "sticky" so it doesn't get forgotten or lost at the bottom of the barrel on thread page 105?
Thanks

I wanted to add a reminder for anyone who's planning on playing D1 or D2 softball. Don't forget to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center. Here is the link: Future | NCAA.org - The Official Site of the NCAA Registration is NOT required for D3 sports.

There's a link titled 'Student-Athlete Registration' on the right side of the page. I can't remember how much it cost, but I think it was about $35?

If you want to compete in NCAA sports at a Division I or II school, you need to register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to make sure you stay on track to meet initial-eligibility standards.
SCHEDULE:
Grade 9
•Ask your counselor for a list of your high school’s NCAA core courses to make sure you take the right classes.

Grade 10
•Register with the NCAA Eligibility Center at eligibilitycenter.org.

Grade 11
•Check with your counselor to make sure you will graduate on time with the required number of NCAA core courses.
•Take the ACT or SAT and submit your scores to the NCAA using code 9999.
•At the end of the year, ask your counselor to upload your official transcript to the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Grade 12
•Finish your last NCAA core courses.
•Take the ACT or SAT again, if necessary, and submit your scores to the NCAA using code 9999.
•Complete all academic and amateurism questions in your NCAA Eligibility Center account at eligibilitycenter.org.
•After you graduate, ask your counselor to submit your final official transcript with proof of graduation to the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Also, don't forget to take the SAT!! Follow this link to sign up/register with the College Board https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/

D2 coaches can begin contacting athletes June 15 BEFORE their Junior Year. D1 coaches can begin contacting athletes September 1 OF their Junior Year. So, if you're a rising Junior, the D2 coaches can already talk with you, and the D1 coaches will be able to shortly.

It is $75 now. This is a good post. This applies to JUCO athletes also. My DD was asked about transferring to a D2 school a couple of weeks ago. She never went through the NCAA since she was originally going NAIA then switched to a JUCO for financial reasons. Since she never registered with the NCAA eligibility center there is no way the NCAA will qualify her to play NCAA ball in the 3 weeks she has left before she reports to her JUCO. So it looks like she missed that opportunity.
