Anyone else headed to Des Moines this weekend? We are taking off from the Chicago suburbs on Sunday, and looking forward to seeing a USSSA nationals destination that isn't Branson. =)

I recommend Smokey D's barbecue right off of 80. It's right by a Harley dealership and a silo, you can't miss it. It is darkish, a bit dingy and delightful.
There is a huge fancy BBQ place called Jethro's and it's good but doesn't have that roadhouse feel. There are several, I think the fancy one is in Ankeny but you better check that.

Coach from <team redacted> tried to have my daughter ejected from the game because she gave up running from first to second after a forceout. DD was still ten feet away when their SS stepped on the base. Apparently 1. they think she is required to slide in that situation, and 2. they think breaking their imaginary rule should result in an ejection. I'd like to sit down with them and the USSSA rulebook, and ask them to show me where it contradicts the above quoted rule. You'd think a team that good would have a decent coach. Even better, their shortstop's parents were swearing and yelling from the fences to "eject that f'n girl." What a bunch of dirtbags. <team redacted>, stay classy.

For the most part the teams we ran in to were good sports. We only ran in to one team that didn't exactly keep it classy (coaches refusing to shake hands, etc.). I hope you guys had a good week. Our girls had a pretty good run. Lost in their 4th game yesterday in that heat an humidity. They were just worn out.
