  • This is just an opinion. I teach Hillhouse mechanics because that is what I taught for the most part. We have very few elements that are dissimilar. However, girls don't have big hands. I think 80% of the girls out there can't grip a riseball on the "horseshoe", but have to grip it spread across the narrowest place between the seams, and in effect throw a two-seamer. So how can they effectively use just pressures? I don't buy the pressure thing as a foundation. But doing it with a fast-ball, or other pitches perfected would be great. I like that girl's drop-curve in the recent post. It is great against lefties and a little lesser against slappers. But she is using a straight wrist roll-over. She could never get that movement with a grip.

I also learned from Ernie, and remember he taught Finch and Amanda Freed when they were with Gordon's Panthers. I also had Michele Smith influence more than anyone concerning some aspects because I was around her so much. Just me!
steve, you had mentioned parker in the thumbnail, i have most of his dvds tucked away, but do you think some of his instruction on movement pitches are usefull how he suggests spinning the ball or do you believe more along the of peel drops and finger pressure to throw movement pitches more like cutters(hillhouse, gillis type movement pitches)
